The hills have eyesRead to the end! Trust me you dont want to stay here!! My sister and I booked this hotel as we thought it was a good location for a family funeral we attended, the reviews looked not too bad and the price seemed reasonable. That was definitely not the case!! We arrived very late (approx 12 midnight) due to bringing the car over from Ireland. We were very very tired and as soon as we entered the car park we were extremely creeped out. Every single light constantly flashed on and off making it very hard to unpack the car. We entered through the bar and it was very very dated. We headed through to the restaurant/reception area and the entire vibe was horrible. I already felt as if the carpet was creeping with bugs but after a few darting looks back and fourth to my sister we decided not to judge it too soon. The lady asked if we wanted to pay with cash or card and I asked if they could just use the card that booking.com had on record as we just wanted to get to our room. I thought I best confirm with the unpleasant staff member that didnt seem to have much of a clue if we had the room we asked for and she grunted. She took us down through a very dated conservatory filled with bugs and spider nests out to a separate similarly dated building. Down a set of stairs and to our 2 rooms even though we had only booked 1. As soon as we entered the 1 room we had actually booked we were even more horrified than before. It was now 12:30am and we were both shaking with fear. It seemed very unsafe the patio door was not correctly closed and I had the feeling we where being watched. We immediately started itching as there was so many midges in the room. There was dirt and dead flies around the headboards there was a large about of webs and dead flies behind the unit between the twin beds and when I lifted my pillow flies came out from under it. I checked the bathroom and with the hairs in the bath the horrible mildew smell and the spider webs in the extraction fan I was getting more and more disgusted. I sat on the bed feeling defeated and the squeaking could have woke the dead. As I sat there contemplating what to do something fell on my head and my sister had to help me kill a spider now crawling through my hair. When I looked up there was a clear spider nest in the lamp shade. (I can totally understand that bugs will be in full force around a river but my god people have you ever hear of a Hoover). The place was thick with dust. I lifted my phone and rung the nearest hotel which happened to be a premier inn 7 mins away. I booked it with the man on the phone and we left the hotel by 1am. We were so desperate to leave that we would have slept in the car that night if we didnt get sorted. After gathering our bags and rushing them to the car I left the key on the floor at the main door as the entire building was now completely closed and I was convinced someone was about to murder us. The next day I rung the hotel to explain why we left and the lady on the phone didnt seem too shocked and said someone would give me a call. I am still waiting on my courtesy call. Both of us were so relieved to get out of there, as we both felt as if we were in a horror movie. I know everyone says the view is amazing but I dont think even it could have made me stay!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

Loved itStayed here for one night on our way to narberth , this hotel is quirky not like your usual perfect hotel , firstly fair play to the new owners who have only been there a fortnight , you should be proud of yourselves , rooms are clean beds are really comfy , balcony view is stunning and the food is divine I had the lamb shank and it was first class . On arrival staff were really friendly and welcoming made us a tea and coffee , check in was pretty straight forward and thank god no stairs to climb with luggage to balcony room , yes I agree work needs to be done here but this place has potential and will truly be amazing , we loved it so much were staying again on our way home . Good luck to new owners .

Excellent Sunday lunchIve just had a really good Sunday lunch. The roast pork was delicious and there was loads of vegetables. The service was very friendly and very efficient. The restaurant has just been redecorated and was very welcoming. I will definitely return soon.

Sunday lunch.Went here yesterday for lunch. There hotel has new owners but the welcome and service were both excellent. The restaurant was freshly painted , with an amazing view over the river and opposite side of the valley. The tables were all well spaced apart. A one way system for entering and leaving was in operation with hand sanitizer at the entrance. The meal itself was excellent. Lots of delicious meat( choice of beef, lamb, pork or chicken). Served with variety of veg , roast potatoes, parsnips. The waitress was friendly and explained what was being served. After bringing the food , she returned to make sure everything was ok and to check if we needed anything else. Although parts of the hotel were still being updated there was no disruption to the restaurant and if everything goes well I expect to return in the near future

Xmas family get togetherWe had originally arranged to attend on Boxing Day but was cancelled due to the latest restrictions. We received a warm welcome as soon as we arrived. We were given the concervatory solely for us. The tables were beautifully decorated also the room. Most importantly the food was v good. We were all happy. There were plenty of vegetables which is important for me. All the meals were of a high standard. The waitress who was on her own worked v hard. Also the chef who was on his own and obviously worked hard. Needless to say we will return. There was also a panoramic view of the river Usk.
