So Relaxing and TranquilWe stayed at the Litchfiled Plantation in September 2011. We were to only guests staying there at the time, and as the main house was closed up we stayed in one of the bungalows on site. The whole place has an air of relaxation about it, the grounds are stunningly beautiful and the staff very helpfull and friendly. The bungalow we stayed in was very comfortable and equipped to a very high standard. The pool , sited on the edge of the plantation , looking out onto the marshes was just fantastic.Even though we were the only guests there at the time, the carriage house restaurant was opened for breakfast for us, a nice touch. If you want a relaxing get away from it all vacation, this is the place to go. Myrtle beach is only 20 minutes away, so plenty to do, and there are plenty of local restaurants to try.Would recomend this place to anyone, absolutley fantastic time, already planning to go back soon...Thankyou

Reviews must be correctI take it that most of the reviews concerning this place as being a place to not stay at must be correct as they have now gone out of business. The caretaker allowed us to walk around and tour the grounds, but the place was closed according to him as "they that were running it, stole all the money and left". Apparently it has been closed for over a year and of course as you would expect, we were told that there were lawsuits "flying back and forth". I absolutely love the grounds, the house and the long avenue of oaks leading into the plantation. What a pity that it is closed.

Been going here for yearsMy family has deep roots in South Carolina. Year after year we vacation at Litchfield. Sometimes we rent a house, other times we stay at Litchfield by the Sea or the Plantation. We have been 15 times over the years. The folks at Litchfield help us find the accomodation that fits our family and we have been very pleased leasing from them. The beach is perfect - moderate surf, lots of sand, no high rises to congest the beach, no vehicles on the beach, not over run with college kids. This is a family area and we love it. We call it the Redneck Riviera but it is no redneck, it is upscale, clean and safe. We love it.

Be careful to ask for a room that looks like the online picture! We stopped overnight and were given a great rate, until we saw the room, behind the caution tape....they were ready for next day construction. The room was good sized, and had many amenities, except the view shown online. I also picked up all of the worn scatter rugs that were unseemly, and could have made my elderly Husband fall. On the bright side, it was a short walk to a good dinner outside by their pool, I had a Mai Tai and the grouper tacos, delish!
