    Quirky & Friendly

We were in Dunedin for a night to watch the Ed Sheeran concert so all we wanted was a bed to sleep in. We booked the budget backpackers room 80NZD for the night. It had a double and a single bed in there, very clean. Had a shared bathroom which you had to walk down the stairs and through the kitchen to get to, which was ok. A continental breakfast was also included too, which i think it good for the price. I am giving that place a great review because of the host, he was so lovely and accommodating, he couldnt of done more for us. Its a little out of town, but we had a car so that didnt matter to us. All in all, pleasant experience.

    Not impressed

Very unimpressed by this place. The ceiling was very low in the room and the single duvet cover only on the queen size bed was not at all ideal for a couple to sleep in. This place was poorly furnished and had a really dirty feel about it. It was very run down and on arrival I noticed that 2 other guests had been double booked so I offered my room to these people so they had a bed and I went to stay with a friend. I thought I was doing the rite thing and spoke to the owner but the language barrier seemed that me saying I did't want the room and give it to the others didn't quite sink in. I would never recommend this place to stay at all. I believe that if they spent some money on some duvet covers that actually fitted the beds and painted the inside it would be a nice play to stay but in it's present state it was very run down.

Told we didn't have a booking

I was showing an old friend around Dunedin. Did special things, Larnachs, &c. The best part our prebooked stay at Lisburn House after the EdSheerin concert. We arrived to learn that mistakes happen - in your not ours. host was from Auckland but I note the owners live in Hamilton.Dunedin at that was fully occupied has two more looking for accommodation.I would be careful to say if you book here CAVEAT EMPTOR. Find somewhere else who will HONOUR your booking.

Beautiful Place, But Not For A Family Stay

Accommodation in Dunedin was in short supply so we opted for Lisburn House. The deal that Hotels.com gave us included Breakfast, but that did not show up on the booking. So for $240 for the night not including Breakfast was definitely not worth the money for our family. Room was quite small for 2 teenages , no TV in the room either didn't help, so our kids were not happy we chose here at all, bored within 2 minutes,so I would only recommend a stay for couples and please make sure the deal does include breakfast. The place was clean ,beds very comfortable but to close together , the house had a lot of history which we wanted to find out about, but the host Steven who is a lovely man did not know anything at all about the history which was very disappointing ,and really would have appreciated a coffee or something when greeted at the door. Location is also to far away from anything. So sorry we won't be back again.

Would recommend that you not stay here.

We chose Lisburn based on the totality of reviews rather than carefully reading recent reviews and was charmed by the Victorian look of the rooms and outside appearance. The property has fairly recently changed hands and the new owner obviously can't keep up with cleaning and maintenance. As you step in the front door you are met with a dusty, musty smell. Brian who opens the door and shows you around is more interested in looking after his son than in any comfort of the guests. The rooms are crammed with dusty figurines in a dark and gloomly decorated Dickensian home The garden while still flowered and interesting, probably hasn't been weeded or maintained at all by the current owner. The included breakfast we had already paid for was made up of the cheapest, most tasteless things available from "orange juice" made from crystals to cardboard toast and red stuff for jam. We stayed here for 3 nights, but decided to forego the last breakfast due in part to the "extras" in the Raisin Bran which I hoped might be flax seeds. In the 3 nights we stayed there, no-one else stayed in the 2 other rooms. We had to ask twice to get any more cheap toilet paper and then wait until Brian and son had finished watching something on their cell phone. All in all the worst place we've ever stayed.
