    Family Reunion Trip

We stay for the full week every year in this hotel. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are very clean. The apartment is very spacious and clean. The staff will help you for anything. The pool and hot tub are very nice. I heard that they are adding more parking spaces in the hotel which is very needed. The hotel is very close to family friendly activities, such as the beach. We take the bikes to have ice cream and to the lighthouse. I definitely recommend this resort for families.

    Frustrated

We were excited to stay at a resort on Sanibel when we received our confirmation. The resort advertises that it is wheelchair accessible. I called and spoke with Linda to confirm and she said the resort along with all the units were wheelchair accessible. Great! We booked our stay. When we arrived, we realized that the checkin/property office was not accessible. It had a ramp, but not up to code and not safe for someone in a wheelchair. There is no resort or club to speak of. Its an apartment building. Our unit had essentially a threshold to get into the unit and wheelchairs cant get over that. The one for the patio was worse! The pool and hot tub did not have lifts and the bathroom doors to the units were too small for a standard size wheelchair! The unit was very dated. The microwave did not work and the kitchen smelled bad in general. Ants were crawling on the dining room table, and you couldnt feel the AC in the master bedroom. The cabinets in the kitchen were peeling. The walls were in poor shape and the unit appears to have electrical issues! There were extension cords IN the sofa that connect to the ceiling fan! There worst part was - I called before going and spoke to Linda who said plenty of people who use wheelchairs come here and never had any issues. Thats impossible. The elevator isnt even up to code and its certificate to operate is expired! A standard wheelchair doesnt fit into the bathrooms! Upon arrival, the staff felt a need to bring up my wheelchair which was inappropriate. When talking about the bike rentals, she said you wont be using them! She also made reference to members of her family using wheelchairs and honestly, there was no professional etiquette which there should be. They did not mean anything wrong, but did not have professional courtesy. Positive note: location is awesome! Units are huge! Three patios! Our unit had a direct bat view - awesome! Its important to represent your property according to the Federal and state laws pertaining to accessibility for individuals with disabilities. This place was misrepresented in publications, websites, and by staff. Will not go back until changes are made.

    Very Nice Stay

Since this is not what I consider a traditional resort, I had a few concerns upon arrival which were put at ease after the first night. Ideal beach location, quiet, very spacious, clean and comfortable. Unit includes beach chairs, washer and dryer and the resort has bicycles that can be signed out by the guest. I would definitely stay here again.

    Better than advertised

From reading previous reviews about this property, I noticed that it received an overall score of 3 and 1/2. It seemed like the common denominator as far as detractors was that the property was older and needed upgrading. I also remember some comments about ceiling fans being plugged directly into outlets and not enough USB ports and other plug ins for modern devices. I suppose as a child of the 1960s and as a long time consumer of resort type vacations that have run the gamut from awful to amazing, I was able to mostly ignore these inconveniences. But I will take these comments by others to heart and for that reason I have knocked it down by one to a four rating. Now to the good parts and there are a number of them. For the most part, there was ample, albeit, tight parking in the lot. There was limited interaction with staff but during this challenging time of Covid, I was ok with that. The 2 bedroom unit was very spacious and include a pullout sofa area that you could curtain off, almost making it a 3rd bedroom. This was great as we could easily separate our 2 older children. My wife and I were very pleased with the sheer amount of dishes and other items contained in the kitchen. This is rare from our experience. Ive also never stayed in a unit that had 2 balconies, one off of the master bedroom and another accessed from the living area. Plus it had a 3rd outdoor screened in eating area. Plenty of furniture in these 3 areas and inside the unit as well. From our perspective, however, the best part of the resort was the location. Although located more than 2 miles from the busiest parts of Sanibel Island, it was very close to the historic lighthouse and was literally a stones or shells throw away from the beach. As a matter of fact, it was easy walking distance to either the north or south side of the island. The absolute best part of this resort, for us, anyway, was that the bicycles, although rather old and not always in complete working order, were included in the stay. Twice we biked over 21 miles and were able to enjoy the wonders of Sanibel without having to pay for parking. This made for a great time during our stay. So if you love a great beach setting, love a great view, dont need constant pampering, and dont mind not having a lot of the most modern conveniences, then this the place for you. Russ from Maine.

    Sanibel Island

The units are large and a great size if traveling with family. However, unless you are lucky enough to get one of the very few units that have a view of the bay, you will only have a view of overgrown vegetation.
