Magical!! And dog friendly!Whispering pines was the one of the most incredible places we have stayed. The lodge itself is really stunning from the drive up, we also had our dog with us so it was important to get a place that was dog friendly, on arrival they were very sensible with coronavirus checks, took everyones temperature and made sure we had not displayed symptoms. Arriving in our room we were more than happy, big bed and excellent shower facilities, the room opened up onto the white gravel with a small appropriate fence between us and the loch itself (that made us feel happy with the dog being there) the room was clean and facilities including hot chocolate and wide selection of tea was very impressive. The location is brilliant and tranquil with around a 30 minute drive from shops for supplies. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and allowed us to bring our corgi for breakfast and dinner. Overall we were incredibly happy and we usually say we would never visit the same place twice (its a big world) however we will 100% be returning to whispering pines and hopefully it will be just as magical as our first visit.

Great views, good food, odd ambienceThe problem with this place, similarly to the rest of the hotels operated by this group, is that the hotels somehow manage to convey a somewhat 'Disneyfied' version of the Highland hunting lodge experience which doesn't quite ring true, especially given the presence of actual hunting lodges in this part of the world. We had a nice two night stay, dinner was good, especially the Indian curry selection and breakfast was OK, albeit terrible coffee and, due to visiting in Dec, a constant background of supermarket-style Christmas muzak. We stayed on a half price offer which made it acceptable value- the rack rate for the rooms is ludicrous and the food without discount is expensive for what it is. Also worth noting, there is a bar, but no lounge or sitting area which is a shame as our room, which was midrange from those on offer, was quite small, with a tiny window and a very noisy road outside. Awesome bathroom however. My suggestion, if you need to stay in the region, or there's an offer on, give it a try, it's not at all bad, but otherwise there are better places to be found.

No refund due to LockdownWe are in the same situation as the review before ours. I have booked the hotel for the festive break, however due to COVID lockdown imposed by the government we were unable to travel. Weve contacted the hotel and they offered credit to rebook by 31st of March 2021. With borders being closed clearly we are unable to travel from England. Weve contacted the hotel via booking.com and asked for the extension to these terms but received no reply, we then contacted the property via their website still no response. Before our travels we were contacted by the hotel asking to pay extra for our dog even though the confirmation from booking.com clearly stated that dogs are allowed to stay and price was included in our booking. The responses received from the hotel were stern and rude so alarm bells started ringing then but we agreed to pay for the dog not to ruin the relationship with the hotel before our arrival. Overall I wouldn't recommend staying here purely based on their customer service, they clearly have 0 idea about hospitality. I understand that the industry is struggling but so are people who worked hard to earn this money then to be robbed by these people. Unacceptable and shameful behaviour by the company that runs this hotel. If I could have given zero stars I would have done.

Very very dissapointedHad zero score been an option we would. We booked this hotel despite there being a few negative comments over New Year. Alarm bells started ringing when I asked for details of their planned New Years Eve festivities non were forthcoming, communications with the hotel were horrendous, telephones (whilst still open) never answered, emails not replied to. Prepaid in December on a no refund on cancellation policy. Sadly the UK government's put paid to anyone going anywhere over the festive period and so of course the hotel closed down. We were still happy to go and didn't want a family firm to lose out. They offered a rebooking anytime up to March 31st, but would not extend beyond and as it became clear the lockdown would extend beyond I requested an extension on time or a refund. Both were flatly denied stating they had no obligation as it was a non refundable booking. Despite me reminding them of their legal obligations and of course raising a Trading Standards complaint they would not budge. I had to get Booking.com to raise the refund some weeks after my first request for a refund. So, all in all, would we ever book with this unprofessional company? No. Would we keep using booking.com? Yes.
