Brilliant! Beautifully appointed and great food in a lovely peaceful location

Stayed here for one night in April 2015; chosen on the basis of the various reviews - should have made time to stay longer. Lovely peaceful location, and Martine and her staff made us very welcome. We had a big room in the main house (there are more in a converted outbuilding that we didn't get to look at) with a balcony overlooking the front of the building; comfortable bed (and another hidden in a corner), with a bathroom and a shower room, both with washbasins. All spotless, and obviously a huge amount of care and attention had gone into the decor. Food was outstanding - served on a covered terrace overlooking the gardens, the swimming pool and the valley. All the staff were friendly, cheerful and knew exactly how to make guests feel at home. The only possible downside is that you wouldn't find it by accident - but it's well worth seeking out!

    Beautiful peaceful haven

The Auberge de Concasty is a beautiful hotel based around the farmhouse and outbuildings of the original family residence of the owner-chef, Martine Causse. There is a fine pool commanding views of the surrounding hills, a large garden to enjoy and during the summer breakfast and dinner are taken on a side terrace of the main house. Concasty is located in the hills of the Chantal region in the Auverne. The scenery is breathtaking, with rolling hills like those found in Tuscany interspersed with woods, lots of cattle, crops and many hamlets and little villages. Here life beats at a slower pace, it is based on its rural farming routes and leaves behind the frenetic tourism of the south. The auberge is perfectly situated for nature lovers and hikers, and a full set of guides and maps are available from reception. We hiked directly from the hotel early in the morning to avoid the sun and were rewarded with sunrises over the hills, soaring eagles, farmers working their land and birdsong in the woods. Dinner is a set 4 course experience and is based around local ingredients, seasonality and the owners herb garden. We were asked if the menu suited each night of our 3 night stay, and while it did, we got the impression that changes could be accommodated. The food was excellent, every course and every mouthful and there was a good selection of wines. We stayed in the secadou, in effect a separate little house with its own private garden and four neighbouring friendly donkeys. Chickens roam the gardens freely and time moves slowly. The secadou can accommodate 3 or perhaps 4 comfortably and is decorated in a modem farmhouse style. The bedrooms are on the upper floor. It's really lovely and lends itself to thoughts of what it must be like to live there. So, if you are a nature lover looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of life, like good food and beautiful scenery than the Auberge de Concasty is perfect for you.

Gentile Civilised peaceful hospitality in heart of beautiful countryside

It takes a little time to unwind and relax coming straight from busy life at home and an 800 mile drive. We were not in tune with the pace of this place when we arrived and I would like to apologise to the host for being overly expecting of what she could do about a problem not of her making. Which I won't mention suffice to say she handled this brilliantly and could not have done more. For which I am very grateful. This was extended to a complimentary bottle of lovely champagne and providing my son with his own room for 3 nights. I don't like seeming to be an awkward guest but recognise that it's how problems are accommodated which defines a truly excellent host Supported by her family this auberge is run in such a gentle relaxed way serving home cooked food to a very high standard. There isn't any choice on the menu but the menu is available in advance should it not be to your liking. Had excellent duck and slow cooked beef as main dishes To add to the ambiance the hosts arranged a choir concert on the Friday evening , and whilst not my cup of tea it was a charming not of this time sight to see other guests enjoying this kind gesture. So I am sorry that as a family we were perhaps not in tune with what this place is about and for that , as I said, I am sorry but suffice to say for many people who appreciate the finer things in life and appreciate good cooking and service with peace and relaxation then you cannot go far wrong. Good luck to this as a family concern. Long may it continue as it is

A Heavenly Place in the Cantal Countryside

It was better than I expected and I had high hopes for this hotel. It is located in the Cantal region, in a secluded location with beautiful views over the surrounding hills. The Deluxe Double Room we had in an annexe was tasty decorated, good materials used for everything, very good bed and bathroom. All services were impeccable and we would like to give a special commend for the energy, efficiency, perfect timing and smile of Martine, the head waitress. The food was exquisite and local produces were used. We have to come back here some day.

Don't tell anybody about this place

What can one say about a piece of heaven out in the middle of France that's so peaceful, so cozy, so beautiful and an owner/chef so kind hearted that she treats you like a long lost friend? The Auberge de Concasty and Madame Causse are a one of a kind experience. The staff is a reflection of the owner as they are so attentive to every need. Breakfasts are healthy and plentiful. Dinner in the dining room or on the covered patio could match or surpass most 5 star restaurants in our humble opinion. The Auberge is a family working farm where all of the produce is fresh and natural and Madame oversees it all. We hope you're fortunate enough to stay there but please, don't tell anybody!
