Come back Basil Fawlty, all is forgiven!

Everything you'd expect from a budget hotel apart from the price, the lack of cleanliness and the lack of maintenance. Give them their due the day staff were very good despite the fact that inkeeping with the 'hotel's' nautical theme they were very much in charge of a sinking ship. The public areas of the hotel were dirty and hadn't seen a decorator in years but there was still hope for the rooms, unfortunately if anything the rooms were worse. The woodwork was dirty, the sanitary ware badly sealed and had a light coating of limescale, the toilet slowly filled up to the point that we were concerned it would overflow. The pillows were wafer thin, the duvet covers were split and there was an accumulation of pubic hair on the mattress cover. My partner, who earlier in the evening shed tears of disappointment at the state of the hotel slept fully dressed as she didn't want to touch any part of the bed. The tourist literature on offer in the room dated from as far back as 2015 and there was a lone hazelnut lurking on the top shelf of the wardrobe. Breakfast was a sorry affair of cold offerings and stale bread and the dining room had the ambience of an old people's home. Fittingly the reception wall is adorned with a painting of a sinister clown that Stephen King would be proud of. Would I recommend this hotel? Hell no, run, run away as far as you can and never look back. It's worth remembering the name of the hotel though to ensure that you don't book it by accident.

Good value for what you pay

Room was clean and hotel has an elevator. Stayed for 2 nights and buffet breakfast was abundant. Restaurant for dinner was closed until May so we walked into the old town which was less than 10 minutes away. Staff were friendly and smoking was permitted outside only. Good view onto the canal from our room. Would stay there again

    Great location

The only thing this hotel has going for it is location and free parking. Torn between 2-3 stars... I wish a 2,5 was option. The rooms are outdated, but I do believe the cleaners do a great job, taking the condition of the rooms (especially bathrooms). Hot water in the shower and comfortable bed. If you get a room facing the canal you have a nice view. Rooms on the backside gets very warm from the sun, even when windows are open. Breakfast, we were under the impression that it was included as nothing was mentioned upon arrival. The surprise when we had to pay 9 euro per person (also children) when the breakfast was as simple as it was... Definitely not worth it. I should have taken pictures. 3 pots with scrambled eggs, sausages and baked beans (all cold even if they were standing on a hot plate...),bread, ham, cheese, some jam, nutella, cereal and some fruit. All looked like it had been in and out of the fridge, or stayed there since breakfast opened. If it had looked appetizing it might have been ok.Spend the money at a nice little cafe instead, there are many in the area. If price and location is the most important, then it is ok. If comfort, ambiance and quality of food is important, don't bother.

    Good Location, but dated

Stayed at this hotel for two nights 26th and 27th October 2019. The rooms were comfortable but looked dated and the wall heater looked like it was coming off. The beds were comfortable and we slept quite well. The door lock was a bit tough at times. We knew breakfast was extra but seemed to run low at times. The bathroom was basic and needed some updating but everything worked. The hotel is a short walk from town and local restaurants. There was some traffic noise from the bridge outside but not intrusive. Not sure what the restaurant was like as it closed on weekends. Does benefit from free off-street parking.

Great base for a work visit

I visited Dunkirk in Feb 2020 with a ship from England that was in drydock nearby. This hotel is simple, basic, (like Travelodge) but if you are using it simply as a base to get a good sleep and brekkie before going out for a long work day it's great. I am coeliac and they were more than happy to accommodate me with my own gluten free porridge in the mornings. I also tried the baked beans and scrambled egg with no coeliac ill effects. I had a great sleep each night and there were plenty of plug sockets for charging items. Staff were absolutely lovely, especially as I spoke almost no French as this trip was short notice. Wifi was a little slow. I'm just so sorry I and my colleagues walked mud all over your carpets.
