outstanding hotelIf you are reading this and are extremely wealthy oligarch or if someone else is picking up the tab, read no further. you will have an amazing week. If you are wealthy but worked yourself to the bone to get there, and if you love fine dining and appreciate every detail of travelling and hospitality , then read on. This is an outstanding hotel. We had one of those weather weeks with a few white out days and a lot of average flat light on the slopes so staying at the Barmes was most fortunate as we had more time to actually use the hotel and its facilities. Food. one of the reasons i have always returned to Val is because of the quality of mountain restaurants ( if you have not been before then go to La Frutiere, Panoramique, Signal, Edelweiss ). What quickly became apparent is that the food at Le Barmes is probably better. Whilst i love a boozy lunch on the mountain, we switched it this year to eat light and lunch and go heavy in the evening. We had the half Board package which i highly recommend. That gave bed, breakfast and evening meal. There are three restaurants in Barmes. 1. The main 'rotisserie' 2. le coin and 3. the michelin star Le Table de L'ours. There are 4 technically as the lovely breakfast room becomes the michelin star restaurant in the evening. Breakfast buffet is lovely. They have fresh honey on racks out of the hive you have to cut off yourself. THere is an a la carte menu which is extra for things like poached eggs but there is enough food to enjoy without the need for that . there is you want it. Rotisserie. There is an incredible starter buffet on monday, wed and friday of the most superbly prepared fresh seafood dishes. You then can order from an a la carte menu for main and there is a dessert and cheese buffet. its good quality. I did not eat in Le Coin which is a restaurant specialising in local Savoyarde dishes such Tartiflette and Raclette. The Michelin star Le table restaurant was to date, the best meal I have eaten. to Eat here, you have to book well in advance. I suspect you only get one night if you are on the HB package but that's prob fair enough. This restaurant really needs a review on its own. I have been very fortunate to eat in most of the michelin star restaurants in London and this blew them away. It is easily a two star and i suspect if it was open all year round would hold three. We have the 3 course surprise taster menu with a wine flight which is included in the HB deal( not the wine) . This meal was sensational. by the time the amuse bouches and palet cleansers were all done, it was far more than three courses. It really was cooking wizardry but the most impressive aspect is how they turn what is the breakfast restaurant into a micheline star experience. It was the highest quality service and staff from maitre de, waiting staff to sommelier. Its a very slick and well oiled machine. When you speak to the staff, they have worked in many of Relais and Chateaux flagship restaurants and hotels in europe. The result of that is absolute first class personalised experience. Meeting the Chef Antoine Gras was a pleasure and a lovely touch. This chap is a creative genius and as he looks around 12 years old, i suspect he will become a world leader in his craft. So, i liked the food. Spa - As you would expect for a proper 5 * hotel. Lovely pool, steam room, spa area with all the trimmings. perfect way to end the day of skiing. Or if there was no skiing, a perfect way to spend a few hours chilling. Bar - London hotel prices, excellent friendly and attentive staff as you would expect from this establishment. They remember your name, they remember what you would like to drink. We even chatted about different ways to prepare a certain cocktail with a specific ingredient( not easy to source fresh horseradish in a mountain ) . The next day the head barman had ordered it in. That is class Cigar and Brandy room This is straight out of a James Bond lair. Lovely room for enjoying a cigar and fine cognac if this floats your boat. Games room There is a bowling ally, pool room, table football. I can see which lots of children in the hotel , this gets to be a bus area. but its just off the main bar so would work well for families. Rooms The rooms was good but I'm not going to say it was a 5* outstanding. They are not the plush extravagance of a dubai 5 star hotel but they are not trying to be. It was clean with lovely comfortable beds with an evening turn down service. Very nice shower and bath. I would have liked a bigger room, but i would have had to pay a bigger price. I know there are some outstanding rooms there as i looked in one of the suites. concierge Superb service and brilliant front of house staff. One of the coolest things is the hotel shuttle. We called the hotel whilst skiing down in Le Fornet and the shuttle met us at the bottom of the slope. They will take you anywhere or pick you up from anywhere in Val. i think that covers it. I don't usually do such extensive reviews but the hotel and staff here deserve the credit. It is a little more expensive then your average week but worth every penny. enjoy

FabulousWhere do i start. Les Barmes is a wonderful place to stay. It is warm and beautiful and a great way to experience the French Alps. We found the hotel to provide a resort like experience and we throughly enjoyed ourselves. All 3 restaurants are delicious. We ate at the hotel five nights in a row and never tired of it. The wine sommelier, Magali (sorry for poor spelling) is impressive and lovely, suggesting wonderful locals wines for us with dinner. We also had breakfast each day, which we didnt enjoy as much. The buffet was good but mostly cold items. We would have liked the option to order a la carte as an included option, rather than as an additional charge. The ski shop has great products and Pierre was kind and helpful. The spa is really nice with a wonderful turkish style steam room and two large saunas, whirlpool and pool. We did a yoga retreat while there and it was super with classes muring and afternoon. Our room was luxurious but small. If you can afford a suite definitely the way to go. Regular rooms do not have a coffee machine, only a tea pot and with instant coffee/tea. We love Les Barmes and hope to return next again soon.

Amazing location at the slopesIn February we have stayed in this hotel for about 4-5 nights, and it was pretty good experience. Great location at the slopes. very friendly staff. The hotel rooms are a bit worn out already, and the halls need some reconstruction. The dinner at their restaurant was style of a buffet-seafood, and we did not like it. Not a good taste considering that hotel has a Michelin star. The breakfast are good just such an odd thing again, when you pay about 1000 a night, and you have to pay extra for eggs, pancakes etc. I hate this. But the selection from the buffet was sufficient. Same as in other types of these hotels-your car gets washed (included in the fee of garage), your skis are well stored, you get a welcome drink, and some pastry, and same when you depart.

The bestLes bars is an extremely good hotel! Very nice, really close to everything, with great aesthetics and food. We were with friends this time, but it's great for families too. I will definitely come back!

One of the best Luxury hotels in the AlpsWhat makes Les Barmes de l'Ours exquisite is not the fact it's perfectly located in the centre of one of the finest ski resorts in France, boasts an amazing Michelin star restaurant, has a private bowling alley, cigar lounge, beautiful spa or its state of the art gym. It's not even the fact it offers a complimentary chauffer service to all its guests. Its the attention to detail and service that really makes this hotel great. Alex and the restaurant team offer a personalised experience in the main restaurant, which was second to none. Highly attentive service, delicious regional food which we felt was closer to 2 star Michelin (than the one-star it boasts). On reception/ concierge desk, Julien looked after our every need and made sure our stay was perfect. From hiring Skis to recommending local bars and arranging transfers he was always on hand to assist. If your thinking about staying here, I would highly recommend it as one of the finest hotels in the Alps for the luxury traveller.
