Lovely hotel with good food and great staffWe have stayed here before en route to and from Spain. This is a comfortable hotel with air conditioned rooms and all amenities that you would need. There is a good sized car park and the staff are very welcoming and helpful. The food is excellent and we dined on the outside terrace as the weather was so warm. There is an outside heated pool and we will certainly return. Warmly recommended.

Good quality hotelIts situated about 15 min away from the centre of town. The bedrooms are a good size and have a very effective air con. The bathroom has a shower but no bath. The rooms were quiet. The restaurant was very good with buffet style starters and puddings and two main dishes of the day. The quality of the food was good.

Poor experienceWe had booked a room in this hotel for our trip to the South West of France for the night of 13th September, we particularly wanted somewhere quiet with pool and spa, and were looking for somewhere we could use regularly as a stopping point for future trips. The reasons we wanted these facilities were several. My husband suffers from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome which makes good rest a priority if he is to be able to function the next day. I was recovering from a surgical procedure to my shoulder and wanted to be able to use the swimming pool and the spa to help with my recovery, and my husband had recently hurt his back and needed this too. The Hotel sent us an email on the day we were arriving confirming our booking and asking what time we would arrive. As we were driving down the autoroute at the time we did not pick this up, nor were we able to reply. When we arrived at the hotel we were told that due to a "computer error" there was no room available for us. We could stay at a hotel in the town, there would be no charge for the room and we could still use the pool and the spa at Le Rabelais. Sadly, we were unable to take advantage of the pool and spa facilities as it was an extremely hot day, and by the time we had found the new hotel, checked in etc., we were both too tired and hot to think of going out again. Stress makes my husband's condition worse, and this certainly didn't help. The hotel we stayed at was fine, and all the staff extremely helpful, however as it was in the middle of town we did not get a good night's sleep due to the noise outside. I am at a loss to understand why we should have been "bumped" like this, as we had given our credit card details on Booking.com and the Hotel would have been within their rights to have taken the cost of the room had we not turned up. The whole experience spoilt the beginning of our holiday. We will not try Le Rabelais again as they are not reliable.

Good Overnight StopWe chose this hotel on the basis of the quality of its restaurant (see separate review). The room was a good size and the bed was very comfortable. We had a room on the first floor overlooking the garden and pool. I would imagine that rooms to the front of the hotel would be quite noisy. The hotel has an open car park at the front or by paying 10 per night extra you can have a space in a locked garage. We had a reasonably good French style buffet breakfast in the morning and I had fried eggs on request. The hotel staff were all very pleasant and helpful. A good place to stay overnight but for us this was marred by the quality of our dinner.
