You'd be better off, in a cardboard box.

If there were such a being as a french Basil Fawlty, he runs this hotel. I am speechless when it comes to my stay at this hotel. The list of things that happened to me and the group I was with is endless. A quick overview runs like this: The manager over booked the rooms, there were not enough when we got there. He requested if people could move rooms and change room partners during the stay so as he could accomodate the other bookings. The rooms smelt, and every half hour an industrial strength deodourized would be emitted into the room. The experience I would liken to being mustard gased. The highlight of my week stay, is when on the fourth day I was requested to move rooms. Myself and two friends were put into a room that the manager was suggesting was for four. When entering the room we found two queen sized beds. There wasn't enough space for two childern in these beds, let alone two adults. I refused to take the room, which became a real problem as there were no other rooms available. Meaning I had to leave and find another hotel in town. Which was probably the best part of my stay at this hotel. The town is full of other hotels. Use them.

You get what you pay for

Just returned from four nights in Agen. Having booked Le Perigord I read the reviews, most of which were not particularly complimentary. WIth trepidation I entered Room 25 and I was pleasantly surprised. A sensibly sized double bed, sufficient storage space and a noisy aircon unit which took the sting out of the warm air. OK the views of the adjacent drive-thru Macdonald's was not overwhelming, but the good quality of the flat screen television was a superior diversion. The ensuite was satisfactory, though the bizarre shower arrangement, which necessitated climbing up onto a platform and then stepping down into the shower well, was not ideal. Still, water flowed on demand, albeit through a shower head which needed descaling to be effective. The strange thin door to the ensuite did not reach to ground level which, I suspect. accounted for the auto-squirt air freshener. WOuldn't it have been better to have had it in the ensuite itself? Breakfast was more than satisfactory though I did not eat any other meals therein. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would certainly stay at Le Perigord again if on a budget. I did have a burger over the road too; I certainly did not expect fillet steak for 5.90.

    Good food

The room offered was awful so we booked in at Le Provence, which was excellent. However, it doesn't have a restaurant and we were recommended Le Perigord (do all the hotels in Agen take their names from other regions of France?) and had an excellent meal there, both in terms of quality and price. Best not to go upstairs though!

    Great Restaurant

The room was serviceable but plain and fit our needs as to location and price. We needed something in walking distance to the Locaboat launch area, train station, rental car agencies, and to local amenities such as supermarkets and bakeries. It fit the bill. Negatives: tiny elevator and some rooms booked by our party were substandard. The restaurant was a bonus, and what a find! Our meals (we went back on a return to Agen expressly to eat there) and the breakfast were outstanding. Fish impeccable, foie gras likewise. Presentation worthy of Michelin star. Final note: In an unseasonably cold spring season we were able to park for free on the street right behind the hotel, but that could very well not be the case at other times.

    Avoid at all costs

The locked front door at 5pm was my first inkling of the horror that awaited me. Situated on a busy roundabout in a very shady part of town with no parking the hotel is not a good choice for any traveller. The rooms are horrible the attitude of the manager similar and the whole place says rent me by the hour. Zipped up my bag and moved to Stim 'Otel in the middle of town (two blocks over more or less) for a far more rewarding experience. Unfortunately I had booked the first hotel online and had to pay for the room. Don't make my mistake. Avoid at all costs.
