A beautiful place with lovely people butWe booked two rooms for a two-night stop-over. The cost . . 900. Now some of that is not the hotel's fault, but rather the lack of buying power of the Pound, but it is still on the expensive side. Parking is free; the rooms were beautiful; breakfast (and the breakfast host) was charming. The hotel has a restaurant that we did not use. Having come home from being out on the first evening we wanted a drink before we went to bed which caused some confusion - I'm not sure they knew what to do with us. In the end we went through the restaurant and into the garden where we had a drink . . . but we weren't offered a second! On the second night, rather than disturb the many diners (which suggests the food is good!), we stayed in a courtyard in fully view of the staff - but not offered a drink. This is probably nothing more than training - all the staff were lovely and certainly willing to make the stay a good one. Finally - our floorboards were VERY creaky. Creaky like you've never heard. If you have a partner who gets up in the night - check which room you're going to get!

weekend stay for a weddinglovely hotel in quiet secluded setting. Surrounded by countryside a converted mill with beautiful rooms . Pillows a little hard but this is common in France in my experience as feather pillows are considered an unnecessary luxury . Room large and attractive if a little sparsely furnished. Staff pleasant, breakfast with great fresh bread even on Sunday. Could do with a few minor improvements such as extremely heavy door from breakfast to garden and the occasional whiff suggested drains may need attention but overall a good hotel and would revisit.

No smiles or welcomeWe went for lunch and despite having booked in advance received no warm welcome. The menu was very limited and seemed expensive, but we reserved judgement hoping it would be superb - it wasn't. I would describe it as mediocre - and it didn't deserve it's prices. The tasters were ungainly to eat and not pleasant - all the breads were 'heavy' and solid. The main course - a chapon - was a very small slice of breast - I don't have a huge appetite, but it was small even for me, desserts similarly very limited choice and unmemorable. Very disappointing - and expensive. The team that were working didn't give the impression of enjoying their work..........the only thing going for it was it's peaceful location.

Looks nice but fails at the basicsDecided to pay a little extra for a stopover while driving from Spain to Germany. Initially we were impressed by the finishings and friendly service. These things may seem trivial but when youre paying 100 for a night you expect not to have to go out into the hallway in your robe and tell other guests to keep their voices down because the walls are so thin that you can hear EVERY SOUND from within the hotel. You also should not have to suffer internet that doesnt work. Its not a new thing. Its not difficult to put proper connectivity into a hotel. This connection did not work and by the time I realised I was too exasperated to even raise it with the staff. These are fundamentals that I would forgive of a one star hotel charging 40 per night. This though is not worthy of more than 1 out of 5. Infuriating.
