disappointingWe were rather disappointed with this hotel. They charged 145 euros for a double room, which we decided was overpriced. Breakfast cost extra. The breakfast was exactly the same each day - no variation whatsoever. The hotel claims to be a 'silence' hotel, but there is a school behind it - we were woken to the sound of the schoolchildren - not exactly silence ! The room was adequate, with a small patio. There is a swimming pool. Nice garden. Not many other guests (we were there in May). Large building site outside the main gate. Unlikely to go there again.

Once our favourite - now disappointingWe last visited Le Mas du Soleil in 1997 and had a simply wonderful fixed price remarkable value lunch This time we decided to stay the night and have dinner in the restaurant. The actual setting of the hotel and restaurant around an outdoor pool is very beautiful. The bedroom although it did open out on to the pool area was disappointing and did not seem to have been updated since the hotel opened in the early 1990's. The bathroom was extremely poor with the shower not fixed into the wall over the bath as would be normal. There was also no shower curtain or shower splash door over the bath which would again be normal. The price of the room was 161 euros which included a continental breakfast served in the dining room (rather than buffet style which we prefer). This proved to be quite scanty. The overall price was about what you would expect for a four star french hotel. Dinner in the dining room was a bit disappointing. Francois Robin the chef still took the order, the maitre d was very pleasant but I felt the dining room was beginning to look a little tired (probably not touched since the early 90's). The actual pre fixe dining menus starting from 33 euros (weekdays) and 43 euros were reasonable value for a good restaurant. Desserts were particularly good but I felt a slip in culinary standards with the first two courses. The wine list is extensive concentrating on Provence wines but not cheap and our Provence wine at 39 euros was one of the cheaper listings. Francois Robin used to enjoy a Michelin star and a decent Gault Millau rating but slipped out of both publications about 10 years ago. Our overall bill for dinner bed and breakfast came to 312 euros. This was about double what we paid in Burgundy the previous evening but certainly not double the value.

Excellent Boutique HotelI was recently in Provence for a business trip and very much enjoyed my stay at this charming boutique hotel. The hotel owners run a lovely hotel with great service and friendly staff. My room was clean, spacious and recently remodeled with brand new bathroom amenities. The weather in provence was lovely so I enjoyed my room very much. I imagine that in the summer it may get hot. The owners run the day to day operations and did a lot to help make my stay smooth. Staying in Salon also proved great for me because of it's proximity to other sites and its offering of many dining options within walking distance.
