Wonderful setting for exploring the Chamonix areaThe chalet-style hotel has generous-sized and comfortable rooms. The common sitting area and dining room are tastefully decorated, warm, and inviting. The pool and spa installations are quite small and somewhat dated, but sufficient for this small hotel. Outside is a large grassy area with scattered lounge chairs for relaxing in the sun. The location is ideal for hiking and exploring the Chamonix area. Wonderful trails start almost directly from the hotel. For those who wish to avoid the crowds, who seek to be close to nature in an authentic setting, and who want proximity to Chamonix, this hotel is ideal. If you do not want to use your car to visit surrounding sites, you can take the free public bus that runs along the main road. However, you will have to walk uphill for about 15 minutes from the Lavancher stop to get back to the hotel. We ate dinner in the restaurant on two occasions. The food, service, and wine were simply excellent, in the best French culinary sense. The menu is quite limited, however, so the half-pension is probably a good option for longer stays. We stayed with our two dogs, who were welcomed by the hotel staff and who enjoyed the nearby dog-friendly trails.

A hidden gem a short distance from ChamonixJeu de Paume is a lovely little wooden chalet style hotel situated up in the mountains only 10- 15 minutes drive from Chamonix. We had a delightful room on the second floor looking out over the mountains. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant serves excellent food and there is a cosy bar for drinks before or after dinner. On recommendation from the lovely guy on reception, we hiked up to Le Chapeau - about an hours walk uphill behind the hotel. Well worth it for the stunning views. Would definitely stay here again if we were in the area.

Cosy rooms, quiet locationNice rooms, welcoming staff at reception and breakfast. A bit loud between the rooms though. We enjoyed the breakfast and felt very comfortable with the friendly women who served it, even though it is a pity it isnt included in the price from the beginning. Not many other options around for having breakfast. Our main concern were with a snobbish waiter in the restaurant at night, who made us feel not worthy of being there when not having starter nor ordering wine. Made an unprofessional impression, and made us eat elsewhere for the rest of our stay.

Restaurant is a shame ! (For that price level)Hotel is nice but nothing stellar. A bit 'bric a brac' for the people enjoying French as a language. Meaning that decoration is not coordinated and seems to be somehow worn by time. Weather was very poor (48 hrs of rain) but of course the hotel couldn't do anything about it. 200 EUR for a premium room with balcony. I would say well priced for January. But please can't you put real glasses in your rooms ? Do you actually know that throwable plastics (glasses) are now off limit in France .... At the breakfast it was a bit like war time on Sunday at 10 am. Everything on the buffet was short and it took a while we could be served appropriately. Only 2 staff running like beheaded chickens. Clearly not enough. Owner is Canadian. She shall know better about service and what a 'clentèle haut de gamme' might expect. But our real anger is coming from the diner we got served on Friday night. 148 EUR for 2. We ordered one dish (Riz Thai) and cheese + bottle of wine. Red Sancerre at 48/ bottle. I checked the price on line. You get the same for 15.85 EUR .... I understand anyone needs to make money ,,, But please. What do you think.. That the 'Rosebud' (just the name make me smile) is deserving a 1 * at the Michelin or more ? What's done is done ! Too bad we had this negative experience when paying the bill. Will not promote this place.

Very nice hotel but not really good location and staffThe hotel is very pretty, but it is not close to anything (walking distance). You can't get anywhere by walking. You need 20mins to get to the hotel from the closest bus station (uphill). So you would need to take taxis which are relatively costly. If you have your car then the location is great since it's a bit isolated. The views in the hotel and the hotel itself are amazing. The staff is not very friendly but fair.
