Perfect spot for a rest after a long travel day

I stayed here with my elderly parents (80 and 82) and my son (8) while travelling across France. The hotel is located at the end of a street, on a big square, facing the train station which must have been once very busy. Our room, 2 single beds, was at the end of the corridor, impeccably clean and very quiet. I think a drop of colour could cheer it up as it was facing north and therefore not very bright. We liked the books in the little shelf. The beds were very comfy and we slept like logs. The dinner at the restaurant (great kitsch room) was lovely and very well thought, the gazpacho was brilliant after a hot day. The best bit was the menu for kids. It is exactly the same as for adults just smaller portions and lower price, it allows the kids to taste the culinary delights instead of the usual minced meat and chips. The staff, though very busy, was happy to share their enthusiasm about the food and different ingredients. Food is serious stuff! Compared to the dinner, breakfast was a little sad, a few croissants and some bread with jam. A piece of fresh crusty baguette would have been welcomed. The young lady behind the counter was dismissive when I asked for tea rather than coffee. Maybe it was a bad breakfast day.

    Convenient

From outside it looks like typical hotel next to the train station but once inside the hotel exceeded our expectations by far! Great room, adapted for wheelchair users, One of the best I've seen. Well done and just renovated! Owner not the friendliest person in France , but correct and professional. Good stopover in long journey by the highway!

    Regular visits to this restaurant

I regularly visit my family in Ussel and almost each time have a meal with them in the restaurant. The quality of the food and service and a friendly welcome are constant. The place would certainly merit a bit of refurbishment (outside, bar area and restaurant). But it is very clean. Do not be put off. We had some friends stay in the hotel. They said the rooms were nice and clean. Certainly a place to recommend !

Better than expected and good value

We stopped for an overnight on our route south and were pleasantly surprised once we got past a slightly brusque welcome. The room was spacious and well appointed with an excellent shower. The one minor problem was that it was on the top floor and very hot on a heatwave day and no fan was available. Dinner was excellent even though it was a limited menu, and breakfast similarly was generous well presented, and gave the impression of being home made. If your time is limited make the effort to stroll down to the older part of town. We would be happy to return

    No food at the inn

We arrived very tired and hungry at 8.40 pm After a very tough day cycling and a car mishap. The restaurant was closed and the person at reception rang 2 numbers without a reply. In a small town of 9,000 inhabitants on a Wednesday night.... and shrugged his shoulders. You could always go to McDonalds There was a bar across the road.... the lady of the house there made us most welcome and wasnt surprised her neighbour had not taken better care of us. The rooms were fine and breakfast the next morning was served by very efficient ladies who smiled. Lovely homemade yoghurt and honey, jams and good bread and croissants.
