    A Real Mixed Bag...

It took us several hours to find the Chateaux, which did not make for a great beginning: First, you will need a GPS to even find the village of Planguenoual; especially in the dark. Second, few of the locals even know where the village or the hotel is...roughly 3 out of 10 even pointed us in the right direction. Third, any sign you may see...and they are small and only begin to appear when you are in close vicinity...will say "Domaine du Val", not Chateaux du Val. We got there very late and insisted that we be escorted to our room and be shown where to park the car...the grounds were unlit, the room signs impossible to see and we would have just left the car in the driveway otherwise! The room was nice, homey and large. The TV was unplugged, the WiFi was down and the bathroom window did not close correctly and blew in the wind. The stairs up are steep and unlit at night. The grounds need real attention, the oafish sculptures should be replaced, and the pool had a broken table top thrown in it... The lawn furniture was a mismatched set of "western US wagon wheel", cheap chinese plastic and mid-century aluminum...with ashtrays everywhere...yuk! The breakfast was bountiful, the homemade preserves like rhubarb were great and the breakfast staff pleasant and efficient. The area, in the light of day, is beautiful and the ocean is nearby. Nothing here an investment of a few million couldn't cure...

Chateau du Val is in decay

We arrived with an offer of Travelbird. Our room was very spacious, with a very large bed. Everything breaths old. That wouldn't be bad if it was elegant old. This is decay old. You don't want to sit in the furniture because you can see the hundreds who did it before you. Tiles are loose in the bathroom floor. We had a very good sleep in this huge bed and you don't have a problem with noise. I woke up because of the cold. Then the chateau and it surroundings; It is in decay, maybe it is because we arrived in May and not July, but there is a lot of work, like a lot! We didn't enter the swimming pool, it was not properly filled and it was dirty. The garden needs some loving. Lady on check-in was rattling here check-in story without enthusiasm. A lot of places have a very stale smell and it is very cold in every place. Breakfast was too basic. You could choose between one ham and one cheese. Why do you gave such bad coffee in the morning. It was freezing in the breakfast area. No minibar available. The have eggs in the morning from their chickens, but I didn't get to meet any chicken. The restaurant is a little gem, but that is another review. I don't know whether I would return.

    Run down and messy

Smelly, musty rooms. Rude reception staff. The windows aren't cleaned, the garden is neglected and the pool in a poor state. The carpet was stained, the bathroom tiles broken....Rubbish lying around in the park. Such a pity. It used to be a nice place 15 years ago...Breakfast is too basic for the price. This place has run down and isn't worth the stay..
