Simple and spacious in a unusual setting.Le Domaine Du Palais Des Eveques is ideal for a stay in St Lizier and a 2 min drive from St Girons. The former palace also has a restaurant that actually boasts a vegetarian set menu! Check in and check out was a relaxed affair. Our accommodation was in the modern complex and was sterile and functional, with high ceilings and a lift to the 2nd and 3rd floor. There was basic cooking facilities in the apartment but no dish towels or washing liquids to do the dishes. The bathroom was modern but the water was only luke warm. Also, the toilet in our apartment had a lingering smell of stale cigar smoke. (Note: the manager is a cigar smoker). The wifi signal is weak to jone existent and cell phone signal for Orange is very poor. There is an Intermarche supermarket just 1km down the road to St Girons and a large market every Saturday in St Girons.

Terrific First Hotel for Spyns 2014 Tour de France ToursI recently stayed here as part of a scouting trip for Spyns 2014 Tour de France trips. This is more of an apartment or condo complex than a hotel so you should manage your expectations accordingly. For example, there are people living full-time in one of the building's wings but that didn't take away from my stay. My large and spacious room felt more like a studio apartment than a traditional hotel room. It had a bedroom, kitchenette, and bathroom (more like a Floriday-style beach condo than something in rural France). The manager Alex was friendly, helpful, and efficient during check in. The setting is truly stunning. Located in the small village of Saint Lizier, this former "Bishop's Palace" has incredible views of the western Pyrenees. What convinced me to book another block of rooms (we were last here for the 2010 Tour de France) is its strategic location along the 2014 Tour de France route and easy access to some terrific riding. Two critiques: first, the WIFI didn't work at all; and second, there were some light maintenance issues such as burned out bulbs and a dirty towel on the sofa. I attritbute both to me staying well out of season. Nonetheless, we look forward to bringing another Spyns TDF group here in July 2014.

Really niceDuring a trip around the France Pyrenees we have stayed at this Apartment hotel for 4 nights. Hotel is located on the top of the hill in the small historical village, with most wonderful scenery to the valleys and mountains I have ever seen. All the hotel buildings are fully renovated and some are completely newly built, some are still unfinished. Rooms were nice and spacious; we had one corner window with restricted view to the mountains. All other windows were facing car park and to another building wall. Of course, if you are very lucky you can get room with the view. For as it was not big deal with it. All days, we have been travelling around the region and have been coming back only late evenings or nights. Only the one negative comment will be about boss-manager. This man was always looking sulky, unfriendly without any smile on the face. All our stay here we felt some discomfort. We didn't feel very welcome. This is the reason why we never ever are back here again.

confusing, bad service and low quality on terrific locationWe did want to return to Le Carré des Anges for its kitchen and because of the experience of an earlier stay at saint Girons. We found the website and saw that you could stay over at Le Domaine Du Palais des Eveques on the same grounds and site. We got confirmation by e-mail for the room and the table at the restaurant. However ohm arrival the man which wrote the e-mail and which we spoke by phone did not have the room ready, did not know anything about the reservation of the table at the restaurant and did not do anything but wanted to blame us. Even when we did show him the correspondence with his own signature! Gladly a young member of the management got us the room, booked a table at an other restaurant in the village ( which was nice but more rural and local), did show us the room which had chairs upside-down on the table, bedlinnen that did not cover the bed completely...and more!. But it was OK with us because on Pentecost you could not find a room anymore. The Carre des Anges was booked for the weekend for a huge wedding! So our plan did not go as planned. After two nights we checked out as planned ad got a nice discount on the bill for all the troubles we had! That was really nice because we did not ask for it. On the whole the stay was acceptable, price quality so-so and only worth returning if the dining at Carre des Anges is part of the stay! Room had no balcony and poor view. Only while standing in front of window you could enjoy the terrific scenery ! In a few years the new management will get things in proper order when the old staff has been changed, we hope!
