Great location, but it's not polished enough to be a classic.

This is a great stop on the way down to Provence as the location is stunning and they are very dog friendly but..some of its charm has been lost in the Chateaux and Hotels Collection corporate makeover. Each room is dedicated to an artist and we stayed in Klimt which has an horrendous bathroom and Klimt fakes but the most beautiful parquet flooring. The original walled garden could be superb but they have put the ugly restaurant buildings in the grounds to cater for the wedding market..all polyester tablecloths and dead plants.Dinner was good enough but the waiters are unpolished, they found me a source of amusement (being queer) and made no attempt to hide it, however the receptionist was lovely and very accommodating. Alain Ducaisse is fronting the collection to develop the standards via a school for hoteliers ..this one definitely needs a lot more work and lessons in manners in order to make the grade .

    Such a drop in standards

My wife and I stopped at this hotel a couple of years ago and found it excellent in every respect. We were therefore very much looking forward to a return visit this year on our way south. What a disappointment! Only the superb setting remained. The bathroom of our room had no shower door or curtain, meaning that even gentle showering resulted in a wet bathroom floor. The bathroom was divided from the room by nothing more than a flimsy curtain. There was no hair dryer in the room and the one I had to get from reception was barely adequate, meaning my wife had to go down to dinner with wet hair. Dinner was fine but expensive. Service was poor and very unpolished. We got the impression they couldn't cope even though they were far from busy. We didn't feel they had any pride or interest in what they were doing and that we were of little relevance to them. Breakfast next morning was terrible. Nobody to greet us and explain things, tables still cluttered with used plates, cups, saucers etc. The food was unappetising, badly presented and felt picked over. The staff were doing their best but again looked as if they couldn't cope. Was anybody getting any training? We have had far better breakfasts for half the price. Finally, on departure, I showed the receptionist a confirmation email I had received a few weeks previously which, she agreed, gave the impression that we would get everything for half the price she was asking us to pay. She apologised for the "error", blaming it on a person who had just started working there. She made no attempt to take anything off the bill in recognition of the mistake. It just served to confirm that this is a place with high prices but rapidly declining standards.

Enjoyed our stay but poor service in the restaurant

The hotel was very easy to find, the room was clean and bed was comfortable, as expected the rural location made it very quiet to sleep. The location of the village is a highlight, after our arrival we walked in to the village, sat outside a bar on a plastic chair overlooking the tips of the alps. I never had a beer accompanied by such a view. The local people in the village were friendly. To the restaurant; the food was very good, exceptional in fact, but it was let down by the poor service, we were waiting an hour before even ordering the drinks. My fianceé had an immediate need for some water, so decided to serve herself after waiting so long. There were only two people serving all the tables. On balance, I would stay there again if we are in need to stay in that part of France, but the restaurant need to work on employing more staff at busy times.

    Decent hotel, poor restaurant

This countryside hotel has a lovely garden and nice swimming pool. The restaurant however offers pitiful service and poor food: well overpriced. Same for breakfast: quite expensive and not even fresh bread (only prebaked dinner rolls...)

    Reasonable half board country hotel

Half an hour southeast of Vienne, this 1820's building contains colorful, comfortable rooms with each decorated in a theme of different artists. We had the Klimt room with it's blue bed and golden walls. It was pouring rain during our visit, so we couldn't take advantage of the outdoor amenities. The dinner and breakfast were very good and my wife and I would like return during good weather.
