    Friendly but dated

Stayed here before and as before the staff were friendly and helpful plus breakfast was great, and its in a good location for me. However the place really needs a make over, it is very 1990's. In our room the bathroom had a very sticking slide door with little privacy. Our room was not made up during the day, but as we came back at 10pm it didn't seem worth the bother of complaining. Will go elsewhere in the future.

Nice hotel convenient to airport by foot

Nick the proprietor was very cordial upon my arrival. He took the time to show me the highlights of the premises as well as the nearby trailhead to the beach a mile away. The main building dates from 1852 or thereabout, so there are many low doorways. The snacks in the afternoon are a nice touch, and the breakfast the next morning was very robust. The usual items (fruit, cereal, bread, pastries) were self-help, but additionally, six or so made-to-order plates were offered. The garden and pool were lovely places to lounge. I didn't ask if the hot tub was operational, but an above-ground tub was near the pool, as was a sauna. Even though the property is on the main road from the airport (which is actually why I chose it, because you can easily walk to the airport), there's really no traffic, so it was pretty quiet at night. I would definitely stay here again.

Well overdue for a major update

I'm afraid review title sums it up. Stayed last night of a 4 day break, only because previous hotel could not accommodate us for 4 nights and convenient for the airport. Le Chene has a very tired feel to it in all aspects and requires major investment to bring it into the 21st century. Poor value for money, paid £30 more than where we had been. Breakfast well below par. Cannot recommend this establishment.

    3 night break

We stayed at the Le Chene last week. Good location for the occupation museum. Airport and the little Chapel all easy walking. There is a lovely beach not too far away. Limited on where to dine in the evening so next time we will stay in St Peters port as more gong on. If you are looking for a bed and breakfast then it is fine. Don't expect much more. Cellar bar lacks atmosphere. Pool uninviting, sauna and jacuzzi are both an extra cost. Our package included 20 free bus tickets which we thought was a great way to get around but found out tickets were for one day only. Who can use 20 tickets on one day as a couple. Staff friendly but very casual in dress. Room OK but very noisy from room above with the smallest TV ever. Guernsey very beautiful and the buses are an easy way to get around the island. Plenty of coastal walks. Will definitely be back to Guernsey.

    Scary, even for one night

Within walking distance to airport. Wallpaper peeling off of walls, orange carpet coming up off of floor, tiny bathroom sink with some of the porcelain missing, shower out of the 1900s, air leaking from window on cold night, dark and dreary. But the worst was when I entered the room, it reeked of floral disinfectant--so strong I wanted to open the window but it was cold and raining outside. Gave me a headache all night. I alerted the woman at the desk the next morning --no apologies or thank you, we'll fix it. She smiled and said, "We give the room a proper clean." Seriously? All she kept saying was that this was an 1842 manor house. Big deal. Not something to point to with pride. She told me she had upgraded me to a better room. I shuddered to think what the first choice would have been. The breakfast was served in a huge, light, airy room--it could have been a totally different hotel. There was another single woman traveling who was next-door to me. Maybe they don't care for single women.
