Checked in and checked out as soon as saw roomPaid what I thought was a deposit when I arrived. Thought it was strange but I had had a long journey. The man on reception asked if II wanted breakfast. I said yes. I went to room up a filthy, smelly staircase into my filthy room. It was too much I walked staraight out and got booked into Le Grand Hotel de Val;enciennes. I checked out immediately. Too my surprise I was not only billed for the 2 days that I didn't stay but also for 2 breakfasts that I didn't have. I know its cheap but I personally think it is a health risk Avoid like the plague

really badthis hotel is located very close to the train station but this is the only advantage it has unfortunately. The WIFI was not working when I visited and it was easily the dirtiest room I ever had to sleep in. There were actual cigar burns on the sheets that were on the bed during my stay. The floor had visible dirt on it.

Absolutely disgusting! This is, without a doubt, the worst place I have ever stayed! The whole place is filthy! The corridors, stairs and lift stunk of urine and faeces and the room smelled of extremely strong, stale cigars. The bathroom and toilets were so dirty I could barely use them. There were no rooms available within 20 miles so I even considered sleeping in my car. Even with the radiators turned off the room was so hot I had to open the window for the night! I was rudely awakened on the early hours by a very loud argument in the next room which sounded like two junkies about to kill each other. Please, do not consider staying here, ever! If it is the only place with vacancies, cancel your trip!

"Interesting."We stayed in Hotel le Bristol about a month ago while visiting Valenciennes to see a traveling exhibit of the British Museum. We found ourselves there as so many hotels were completely booked. I think that the ownership must certainly have changed within the time between the 2015 reviews and now. We found it to be a very low-end budget hotel, however, it was neither dirty, nor smelly. The furnishings were crude at best. The bathroom ceiling had a hole in in, and all it would take would be for even a novice DIY person to watch a You-Tube video to see how to repair it-- a matter of plaster and smoothing, and some paint. Yes, the towels were skimpy, there was no kettle in the room, and virtually everything looked "worn." The small wall-mounted television had masses of wires dangling from it. Odd. I am VERY picky, and yet the cleanliness met my basic standards. The bed and pillows were comfortable enough. The sheets looked very old, but were clean. Inside the duvet cover was a very, very, very old thick, synthetic blanket. But it smelled freshly washed. What made the place at least minimally acceptable was that it was quiet at night, after the tram quit running at 11, and even then, it was not bad as far as noise goes. The staff were solicitous for the most part--the evening clerk was subdued. The morning coffee was excellent. The desk man went out after fixing me coffee, and returned with freshly-purchased individual croissant and baguette. Breakfast included juice as well. He was very friendly and agreeable. I believe that these are new owners, trying to make a go of this place. Hopefully they will succeed. The "rub" we had with this hotel, is that it's website and Booking.com both said, "Free Parking." Wow, that's great. We didn't know how to access this free parking, so we parked in a "Payant," and checked in. The evening clerk directed us to bring our car to the front of the hotel, and there, under a tree, was parked his car, which he moved and ushered us into the spot. There were no yellow lines, which normally indicate "Delivery Zone, no Parking." There were no "Parking Interdite" signs, either. Nothing. Yet, a week after we arrived home, we received from the city, two parking tickets, one for 135 euros, and the other for a bit less. My husband has contacted Booking.com, as well as the parking ticket issuer, explaining the situation. He cc'd a letter to the hotel. Thus far, we've not heard anything. He contacted Booking.com by telephone, and a young woman told him that they would cover the cost of the ticket. Then a different person he spoke to said "No, we don't do that," which I fully understand. We are still waiting to see how this is handled and hoping that it is resolved. If the city will not revoke the ticket, we will go after the hotel. I would definitely say that this is much more of a student type of hotel, and not for a mature couple, which we are. We found the downstairs breakfast area to be 100% acceptable, and the room to be probably "the" most basic we've ever been in. The sky did not fall, no insects, no bad smells, just very roughly primitive for our taste. The elevator was "broken." I suspect it will remain so.
