  Sometimes the gods Smile

  We hadn't planned on staying in Uzes but it was a two hour trip back so we started lookig for a place around 6 pm. Struck out at the first three, which was a surpise for mid May. Had given up and decided to drive back when we spotted the auberge. They had rooms and as it was also a restaurant, we booked for dinner. What an unexpected treat! The auberge is a two star, so the rooms are not enormous. However they have been renovated and are clean and bright. The restautant is likewise. Denis and his wife own and opertae the auberge. While we didn't meet his wife, Denis is delightful. His English was much better than our French. The next morning we stayed for a typical French breakfast. Denis freshly squeezes the orange juice with blood oranges. He told us that while the blood orange season had ended he had put away athousand oranges for juice. A side note. While our planning was a trip to St. Remy, the next day we went to Uzes, which really didn't get much mention in our guide books. We far preferred it to the more acclaimd St. Remy, which we found very touristy.

  Good Meals, Basic rooms

  Stayed her late summer. No A/C in rooms, but this is typical in France, so we endured a few balmy nights. The hotel is positioned along a fairly busy road, so the noise can be annoying. Rooms small and basic. The meals are great, home cooked, and probably the best hotel breakfast i've had in France, really fresh croissants and quality spreads. Nice sized pool, great parking, well located to visit Pont du Gard which was the reason for our visit. average wi-fi

  Unexpected gem

  We spent one night here August 2017. The facilities are fairly basic and simple, proper to a two star hotel, but clean and well maintained. Comfortable beds, decent sized rooms. What makes it special is the food. A menu for about 25 euros which was delightful and married old fashioned French provincial cooking with some modern twists; a good little wine list with a local emphasis; and a lovely dining room. The owner is courteous and welcoming, and told us with justified pride that his wife cooked all the food. We would certainly return here

  Nice host, nice dinner, nice stay

  We stayed here for two nights in October 2018. It was mid-week and the hotel was quiet. As others have noted, the host was very warm and welcoming. We had dinner both nights our stay and the food was very creative and delicious and the local wine selection was great. The breakfasts were also very good. Our room faced the pool and was comfortable and quiet. The hotel was perfectly located just a ten minute drive from Pont du Gard and five minutes from Uzés.

  Very hot room under the room, air-con not connected.

  As mentioned above, the portable air-con unit wasn't plugged-in and when I tried it, it didn't work, otherwise room not bad except rather low for me - 186 cm. I also had an unpleasant reminder of this when descending the stairs which were very low and I got a rather heavy smack on the skull . Unusable Wi-fi - was lucky that the near-bye Haribo museum had unencrypted access otherwise nothing would have been available. The owner doesn't seem to realise the value that visitors put on this and waved away my comments about the miserable reception.
