Not very impressedWe arrived and there was a very bad smell outside the hotel. Our toilet hadn't been cleaned properly so I asked them to clean again but they just sprayed a cleaning product to mask the smell. Had to ask again to clean the stains out if the toilet. Also there is no internet in the rooms. Only in the lobby. Positives are staff are very friendly.

Basic hotel but staff made our stayWe stayed at the hotel in January as our friends had stayed in Negombo 22 yrs before and wanted to go back to see what it was like, We decided to stay the 2 weeks and travel about from there. The hotel is small and could do with some refurbishment but is by no means bad as some of the reviews state, Our rooms were spotless and the beds are one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in, in a hotel. Sometimes the drains did smell in the bathroom but this is the case in many hot countries that don't quite have the western infrastructure. This is the same for mosquitoes they exist in these places, but go prepared or go and buy some incense sticks from the supermarket, they were by no means an issue. The staff here cannot do enough for you and did run around after us a group of 10 for 2 weeks they were great, The pool is very clean and this is one of the few hotels on the beach side with sun beds on the beach, although area very small. The bar snack menu is small and food is ok but could do with a few variations of choice and staff are slow to serve but we were not in any hurry and they always served with a smile. The staff do have an issue on the beach as the palm trees surrounding are full of birds, staff have a catapult to scare them off but we found the cushions were clean and towels were supplied for sun beds, Hotel is very central and easy walk into town and we loved it and would and are considering visiting again.

Right on the beach - basic, economy stop-overThe generally good: A really warm welcome and generally staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel backs right onto the beach and provided shaded seating and sun loungers (although the towels and lounge mattresses were worn and felt grubby). As I lone female traveller and felt safe during my 5-night stay but didn't venture out much at night as the hotel is further away from the touristy area and without decent street lighting (this was a personal choice of course). Great to be able to step straight onto the beach and see the local fishermen at work, the stunning sunset, and instant access to sun and waves (I advise lying on a lounger as the beach is a little dirty - it is a working beach). Toilet paper! Fridge, TV with some English and Hindi-speaking channels, AC and fan in the bedroom. Daily room cleaning and fresh towels by request. The photos on here and other sites are quite reflective of the place - although the breakfast area/restaurant is not. The place is clean but very worn. The generally bad: They only wanted to accept cash which was a pain, particularly when paying on check-in (although I'd booked online through booking.com). The 'restaurant' menu was VERY limited but food available throughout the day on request.Drinks were limited and they constantly ran out of basic drinks like Sprite and Coke (not sure why they couldn't pop to the shop across the street). I bought my drinks from a small shop nearby and kept them in the fridge in my room. Didn't feel like I could use the pool. It seemed only to be used by women with children or by men (a personal choice again of course). No Wi-Fi. The downright ugly: Several cockroaches ventured into the bed with me over a couple of the nights I was there. Not sure if this was just a consequence of being in a semi-tropical country or a consequence of poor sanitation and cleaning. The cleaner was happy to come and spry the room once I informed them. Helped psychologically rather than with the actual problem. Overall: Good for a couple of nights if you're on a tight budget but would stay down the road in one of the other hotels if I was ever to go back.
