Skiing holidayPerfect hotel for our skiing holiday! Comfy bed, hot showers and amazing food! The staff were lovely and very helpful. Very close to the ski slopes and you can rent a locker in a ski shop so you dont have to lug your gear back. Would defiantly recommend this hotel!

Great staff, good food, rubbish accomodationRelatively easy access to lifts, but up a very steep hill (and no help offered with luggage, indeed no staff at reception when we arrived mid-afternoon). Young Swedish staff are friendly, the food is generally very good. However it was amongst the worst accomodation I have stayed in in the Alps: small room with inadequate storage, 40 year old sanitaryware, leaking bath tap. No armchair or sofa in the whole place in which to relax. Room bore no resemblance to what you see on the website.

A good experience with a few things to be aware ofThe overall impression: a really good place. The building is from the 18th Century, so there a few things that comes with that. You hear your neighbours quite well, heating system requires a substantial update and there is no elevator. Staff: Young and friendly staff who are very keen on serving the customers in a good way. Sometimes they don't know what more senior staff would know, but no issue since they are so helpful and charming. Rooms: Due to the structure of the building, the rooms are not always well planned. More places to hang your clothes would be appreciated. Beds are excellent. Hot water in the shower comes and goes... Cleaning is very good. Splendid view from the balcony, not all rooms have balconies though. Wifi: sucks, sorry but it does. Invest in a few more repeaters on all floors. Food: Breakfast is excellent. Good quality, taste and assortment. Dinner: Overall a high level, but with minor issues. One night we got fish and it was very good, but not warm. Things like that can of curse happen and it's not a big problem. Good wine list and perhaps some more senior staff would have been better for wine recommendations. Bar: They arrange some entertainment, which is appreciated. Good selection of drinks and good service. Location: Not the best from a "Walking to the lift" perspective, but if you get a balcony, then it is so worth it. In all, we are very satisfied and with a few improvements, this hotel could get a 5 star rating.

A Surprising Gem - courtesy of Crstal SkiWe arrived late evening, our coach having dropped us off on the main road and our Rep escorted us to the Hotel. It was dark when we arrived, it was snowing, and the old town looked enchanting. The walk was no more than 300m howeverthe last part required a bit of a pull up a hill, which set me puffing as I was carrying two pairs of skis! it was a delight to enter the hotel, the old stone charm of the property was immediately apparent, and talking of charm, the reception we received from Magnus, the manager, made us feel not only at home but with an old friend. If you want the latest in style, decor and facilities - lifts, porters, spas, swimming pools, gymnasiums and all the other trappings that the 21st century has to offer - then do not come here. If, on the other hand, you want rustic charm with stone walls, ages old wooden floors, heavy oak doors and vaulted stone ceilings then you'll be in your element. Our room (No 16) was one of the smallest and one of the nicest and we loved it. It's not everywhere that you have to duck your head to get into the bathroom (loved the wet floor shower) or climb steps to get in to your room. The Dining Room was a pleasure to eat in, the food was very good and we were aware of the efforts made to accomodate all dietary needs or wishes. If you like warming, creamy soups to start your meal then you won't be disappointed. The evening Rotisserie looked amazing, although we didn't partake as we were very comfortable with our menus, but clearly it was very popular with guests and visitors alike. The bar was spacious, and carried an interesting range of drinks, especially beers and gins (spotted one from Cornwall!) Maybe the lights could do with being a bit brighter, but ambiance was there and the staff very helpful and accomplished (try the cocktails) . Regardless of the charm of the place, the rooms or the food, what made La Vieille Ferme stand out head and shoulders above so many other places we've stayed (skiing or otherwise) was the Staff. Everyone was approachable, friendly, conversational and clearly professional in carrying out their duties,. There's no doubt to our mind Magnus has a friendly team, almost like a family, and one in which he is justifiably proud. Overall, we loved the place and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. And, finally, after a fabulous week's skiing and a very enjoyable stay here, I am pleased to report that I could scamper up that hill, with my skis, and not be out of puff - so maybe there is a sort of gym after all.
