    Exquisite Gourmet Country Retreat

We came to Langdon Hall for our first vacation away from home since the pandemic. The food is as incredible as always, the grounds and hiking trails immaculate and set up with lots of fire pits and places to safely gather. Not to mention the best part which is that they are incredibly pet friendly!! What a wonderful escape!

    Made engagement special

I cannot say enough about Langdon Hall. Not only is it beautiful, peaceful and cozy, but the staff went above and beyond to make our (surprise!) engagement special. Everyone - the sommelier, servers, front desk, spa services - was in on the surprise. They made us feel extremely special. We stayed two days and it simply wasnt enough. The food is incredible - they were very accommodating of my celiac and lactose allergies - they even sent us home with fresh gluten/dairy free bread! Would also recommend getting a suite with a fireplace. We cant wait to go back.

VIP Service and best experience ever! Don't think twice, just come here.

My husband and I celebrated our 15th anniversary at LH. We had heard about this beautiful place from friends over the years but hesitated as the Website's pics seem to show an old school and conservative environment, and we're into modern and bright surroundings. We are in our 40s. We still made a booking as we were curious. To our surprise, as soon as we walked into the check-in area, we were very well greeted and the person at the front desk found my gift certificate which I purchased during Thanksgiving and offered to have the valet take care of our bags. Since check-in is at 4 pm, she already had a room available for us in the main building but we decided to wait as we had requested to be in the Cloisters' area and on the top floor. It was around 1 pm. The best part is we went inside one of the lovely living rooms, the one where the bar is located, and sat at the fireplace. We immediately admired the room's lovely painted wall, the artwork, and the relaxing feeling. We sat down and ordered cocktails, best cocktails ever! We felt transported into another world away from home, like in the dream living room you would love to have in your own home. LH's cocktails were original and delicious, well decorated with rose petals on the glass and with their own dehydrated slices of fruits. We even got to sample some dried fruit from Alexis, the bartender. Our room was #50 at the top floor of the Cloisters building. We received help to find our way around as we tried to navigate indoors using the underground instead of walking outside as it's a bit chilly. The room has high ceilings, a lovely bookcase, excellent bedding (like 1000 Egyptian thread count) and we loved our products. They have heated floors in the bathroom! There's a Nespresso machine, water bottles and we we had a lovely card to welcome us for our anniversary along with the best French almond pastries I've ever had. Being a foodie and former Montrealer, I know my croissants! The carpet is thick and super clean, you can do your exercises as there's lots of space. The food was good on the first evening and great on the second one. It could be because of COVID and the restaurant can't source the best ingredients. Let me tell you that the service from the Maitre D', sommeliers to the waiters are outstanding. Here's an example: on our second, we called from our room to inquire about getting the burger for our second evening's dinner as we noticed it wasn't on the menu and other guests had it during the first night. I also asked if it was possible to have two desserts from the lunch menu as none of the ones from the dinner menu interested me. No problem, said the receptionist on the phone. To my surprise, when we went downstairs for dinner, our server named Samantha immediately asked us if we were still interested in having the burger. Wow, she had heard the news from the receptionist. Now that's serious attention to detail which I haven't seen elsewhere. We also inquired if we could have our dessert in one of the living rooms. Since it was 9 pm and the entire place (i.e. restaurant, bar, sitting rooms) closes at 10 pm due to COVID, we weren't sure if it was too late. No problem, Samantha moved all our glasses and plates to the living room and another employee showed up to make the fireplace just for us without us even asking. We were over the moon and were so grateful. These are some of the little attention to detail which is amazing. We also enjoyed speaking to the French waiter from France and he took the time to chat with us around 10 pm, just before closing on the first night. We were impressed he worked at a few Michelin star restaurants in Europe and chose to move to Cambridge. He even comped our digestifs and apologized for forgetting to bring them over as the staff took the last call at 9 pm due to COVID restrictions. We told him it was really unnecessary and we were just taken by surprise by the com. He even gave us some wonderful chocolates at the end as part of our anniversary. We were so touched by his gesture. We were very lucky to be able to dine in their main dining room the first night and in the War Room the second night. Due to COVID, they originally asked us if we could dine in our room one of the 2 nights. But we asked upon arrival if there was availability to dine at the restaurant. On our first night, my husband felt like ordering cotton candy at 11 pm. Somebody showed up at our door within 10 minutes with our order. It felt like Disneyworld for adults! For activities, we attended the wine tasting with Thomas, the head sommelier. They only accept 10 guests and I think the 30-minutes workshop is given every day. What a great storyteller. We had lots of fun. We also went outside and took a walk around the trails, it's beautiful and very peaceful. There are many rooms in the main building, you can sit in any one of them. Each living room is magnificent, the paint colour is vibrant, the walls are so clean and full of detail in the ceilings, loved the artwork and the heavy curtains. You can close your eyes and meditate and feel great. Or just stare at the paintings and never get bored. They also have copies of the Globe & Mail newspaper. More importantly, with COVID, the hotel was very clean. The staff wore a mask and a plastic shield on top. Also, if nobody picks up the phone when you press 0, it's because they are busy on another line with another guest. They called me back immediately afterwards. The breakfasts are delicious. My only regret is we went out for lunch one day to Cambridge Mill, huge mistake as the food was awful (i.e. bad pasta and sour Cesar salad). It's a magnificent building and venue on the outside but not the food. So my advice is to just stay in LH and no need to go out. My only recommendation is to have humidifiers in the room as I felt it was very dry. I saw it at another hotel in Elora which helped a lot. Otherwise, I loved the powerful Dyson hair dryer, thick towels, bathtub and soaps. I will definitely return to LH...this place is like a dream come true and a lovely surprise. If I were rich, I would live in my lovely hotel room for 2 weeks and work from there and look outside the window. The TV channels are excellent, they have HBO and everything you want! Next time, I am going to try the spa and come back in the summer to try more of their wonderful cooking. Thank you again to the wonderful staff for making our stay a fantastic one!

    Sarah Richardson?!

Really Langdon. Was this your best choice? Not to offend but you serve a company of well educated design forward individuals and out of a bouquet of choices you have picked an ill suited match. A pity when there was such an opportunity to do something amazing and something different. Langdon as the new Ramada. Pancakes with cool whip anyone?

    Anniversary Lunch

Yesterday we visited Langdon Hall for our Anniversary as we typically do. This year, we could only enjoy lunch as we were not overnight guests. We have to say though, that our meals were exquisite. I had the vegetarian option which was the best I've ever had. Hubby had the Beef Short Rib dish which he said could not imagine could ever taste better. He noted that the roasted veg puree was a sure bet to make children eat their veggies! Kudos to Langdon Hall for knocking it out of the park even during these very difficult times we are living in.
