  Extremely pleasant lakeside restaurant/terrace/hotel 30 near Sans-Souci and 1/2 hour by train from the center of Berlin

  Our small family treated itself to a pre-Christmas Berlin trip, and after the great Christmas markets, Alexanderplatz, shopping, et c, it was wonderful to use the perfect train service through Potsdam back to the picturesque lakeside village of Caputh, and relax in the modern but warm luxury of Hotel Haveltreff (I won't even attempt to pronounce the rest of the name). The hotel is located next to a small (perhaps 12 metres) ferry crossing across the canal linking two very romantic lakes, and has a large sunny summer terrace, a rather elegant restaurant, and I think about a dozen rooms. We stayed in the huge suite (with balcony) overlooking the canal, which was extremely comfortable with funky vintage carpets and wallpaper. Everything was like new and spotless, although I'm not sure about the idea of a transparent glass door seperating bathroom from bedroom. And while the shower is top-of-the-line (including those annoying designer taps that require an engineers' degree and two hours on the internet before you can operate them), I still prefer a bath.. We did not dine in the restaurant, as we arrived late, but the room was still full of apparently delighted locals finishing what looked to be pretty delicious meals. Our childrens' well-rehearsed baleful eyes had the desired effect on the owner (with his wife Uta) Rémy, a Frenchman who used to be a chef in Vienna and Bora-Bora (!), and he whipped up an absolutely fantastic Christmas mother-of-all-snacks just for us, something our children (and us) are certain to remember - and remind us of - when standards dip at home!!! Breakfast was first-class, and all the staff tried genuinely hard (this area used to be East Germany) to be helpful and pleasant. Prices were extremely reasonable - all in all, a 6-star (if I could) experience!!!

  What a place!

  I warmly recommend Haveltreff. Beautiful environment at the bank oh Havel lakes. The hotel and restaurant are simply perfect. We came in a group of 8, including 4 children and have had a very pleasant stay. The rooms are spacious and well furnished with everything you need. We anxiously tried the restaurant as we were told the chef is French: Delighted! Very tasty food with attention to the details. Smily service on top of this, what more do you want? In a nutshell: Top value for the money. In the end, this family owned place is the ideal choice should you wish to visit Berlin, spend a day or 2 in Potsdam... while staying away from busy/crowdy city center.

  Great Place

  nice, frindly service. It was nice to be at a restaurant where the staff was smiling and friendly. Very relaxing atmosphere looking over to the water. The restaurant has also outside sitting possibilities.

  Great Hotel

  We stayed at this Hotel for five nights with breakfast in September. The hotel is very well appointed, our room was spacious along with a relaxing atmosphere overlooking the Havel. The owner and staff were very friendly and served a great spread of breakfast every morning. Highly recommended, very good value if you wish to spend some time outside Berlin and explore Potsdam area.

  Perfect

  We stayed and dinned there with our family of 4 over the week end, the room are good, The staff is excellent, the food was a great surprise, as the food was of great quality. we would recommend the hotel and restaurant.
