A Lovely Week in an Out-of-the-way Location

The resort was in a beautiful setting on a mountain above the pictureque town of Saarburg. Our accommodation was very clean and very well-equipped. The bedrooms were a little small but that didn't bother us. Another nice touch was the garden furniture outside our back door: enough chairs for everyone and a table. The TV, however, only had German-language channels. The swimming pool was lovely and very clean and well-maintained. I was very disappointed in the sauna and steam room as I expected these to be large and free but instead they were 3 euros each and were tiny. The restaurant food was very good quality and we enjoyed several meals there. Prices were very reasonable and the portions were generous. The waiters were friendly but not terribly efficient in that we had to always get their attention when we wanted something. The menu was only in German, although most waiters could get by in 'Restaurant English.' We arrived at 7.00pm and Reception was closed. Although we had been told this in an email beforehand, it still seemed strange for such a large resort to have nobody there on one of the two check-in days. It was only thanks to the helpful taxi driver who must have taken passengers there before and knew what to do that we were able to find the keys to our unit. Unless you have a car, you must either walk up or down the mountain, about a half-hour trek so you must be very able-bodied. There is a cable car (approx 4 euros per person each way) but it only runs 10am - 6pm and not at all on Mondays. Although the unit was very clean and comfortable, we were only given one toilet roll for a week and had to buy more in the shop as no more were given. We knew ahead of time that no toiletries were supplied but we feel at least a small hand soap could have been provided in the bathroom. We liked the fact that there were wash basins in every bedroom.

    Lovely get away

We chose Saarburg for a cheap European get away and it is just that. The lodges are pretty similar to Centre Parcs in the UK. The facilities are great for small children and the pool is quite small but the outside volley ball and basketball gave our teenagers something to do too. Friendly staff and the Pancake House is great !

    Off season green park

Landal Warsberg at the end of October worked really well for us. The weather was fine but cool (cold in the wind) and the countryside is still magnificent. Pool nice and quiet, all amenities still open. Friendly staff, cosy bungalow.

    Winter vacation

Great resort. Definitely different feel during winter time versus summer. We enjoyed our stay visiting other local Christmas markets. We would go back espeically at the beginning of summer. Pool was a little chilli but still refreshing.
