A delightful combination of the Old with the New

This 8 room ryokan is 35 mins from New Chitose Airport. Perched on the water's edge of Lake Shikotsu, it has rooms that face the lake and the setting sun. Each room has a little onsen tub of its own that is comfortable for one a cosy squeeze for two. Rooms 106 and 107 have the tub that faces the lake and is a beautiful place to watch the brilliant sunsets that the lake is renowned for. There are also two open air onsets that you can reserve in one-hour blocks of time. One has a zen like large wooden tub and the other is a rock pool. With the booking you can enjoy an onsen with your significant other in privacy. Rooms are small but well designed with space for arm chairs to watch the view through a large picture window. There is also a massage chair provided. Beds are very comfortable but two twin beds rather than a larger double bed. Service is excellent but the typical restrained, quiet Japanese type. The jewel in the stay is the really excellent Japanese-Italian fusion restaurant run a young Japanese chef. His food used super fresh local produce prepared with the lightest sauces that perfectly balance the flavours without detracting from the natural flavours of the meat, fish or vegetables. This trip was at the end of a 3 week stay at many other high-end ryokans throughout Hokkaido and this restaurant can easily best the finest served at other places! It was really that good!

    best Ryokan experience

My husband and I stayed here for my birthday, and we had the best experience. The ryokan is located right on the lake is so so relaxing. We enjoyed strolling around the quaint little area by the lake, hiking, and bird watching. The food in the restaurant is some of the best food I have ever eaten in my life! It's Italian fusion and there are so many delicious and beautiful courses. The staff at the ryokan were so kind as well. On the night of my birthday they brought us out a special birthday dessert. We enjoyed the private onsen and relaxing in our room. This was probably the most relaxing vacation I've ever had. Thank you for such a wonderful experience and for your kind staff!

    Great Experience

Why should you stay at Ryokan? You should go here. I loved a lot this place. food, Onsen and service were totally amazing although the room was little bit old but still clean and well-organized. Italian course dinner and breakfast with the local ingredients and materials were amazing. I felt that Japanese culinary culture get its huge competitive edge from their local food ingredients. ? . , . fair enough . . .

Excellent lakeside onsen hotel with delicious dinner

We had a very wonderful stay at the hotel. I first would like to thank the staff of the hotel. They are friendly, helpful and thoughtful in providing services ranging from picking us up at the bus stop, providing transport information to serving breakfast & dinner. Our room, as well as the onsen inside, has a stunning lakeside view. The room is spacious and clean. It was enjoyable seeing the beautiful lakeside view while sitting relaxingly on the massage chair. The western dinner using seasonal local food was very delicious and impressive. To me, the quality was comparable to or even better than those served in some one-Michelin-star restaurants. The breakfast was not as good as the dinner, but the view of the restaurant in the morning was amazing. I particularly like that the hotel is a small one, so there were not many tourists around. We could enjoy a quiet environment. I definitely will stay here again if I will visit Lake Shikotsu again in future.
