Relaxation in luxuryOur family (6 of us) enjoyed our one night stay at Mizu no Uta. It was truly a place for relaxation. The onsen was wonderful, and the Lake Shikotsu-Toya National Park right there is beautiful. Buffet at the restaurant also provided a variety of delicious food.

Stayed in different rooms for 2 nightsWe stayed as a family of 4 (in 2 rooms), for 2 nights 3 days apart. There was valet parking and warm welcome at the entrance as we arrived by rental car. The first night we stayed in basic twin rooms with buffet dinner and breakfast. The variety offered for dinner was quite good, with all you can eat sashimi and a main course (beef/fish) prepares to order per person. The breakfast buffet was even better, salmon roe with rice pot served per table. The second we stayed in a premier suite, with private onsen, premium kaiseke dinner in private room and Japanese breakfast in the Japanese restaurant. The food was amazing and service attentive. I particularly liked the harp performance that was on 4 times a day - it was really relaxing in the lobby listening to such beautiful music. We would love to be back one day!

Wonderful onset spa resortThis upmarket ryokan stye onset resort is a tad intimidating at first to us but the room absolutely made up for the initial stress. The lobby was quite a ways from the car drop off point. All cars have to be valet parked. Upon arriving at the check-in lobby, you have to remove your shoes like all self-respecting ryokans. Once you enter the room, however, you will be overwhelmed by the sheer luxurious accommodation. We had the room with the private onset and it is absolutely fantastic! One of the few places that once you checked in, you didn't really want to leave the room. A sort of hotel California. The hotel is also right at the picturesque Lake Shikostu. It is a couple of minutes walk to the lake. The dinner and breakfast are sumptuous affairs. The buffets are amazing.

Beautiful property, great foodEntryway is just the beginning to the wonderful experience you will have inside the Ryokan. Beautiful design with some Ainu elements. Take off shoes once you enter the lobby and you don't have to worry about shoes the rest of your stay. Was in a first floor room with private onsen which is great but there are no views. The A/c does not work in colder months so if the room is warm you have to open the door and you can hear the running water for the outdoor onsen. There is a pillow gallery to choose a pillow as well as a water bar. Gym is quite large for a place like this, a modest collection of machines. Dinner and breakfast buffet are really good. Almost too many options. Spa prices are a little high but the treatments are as good as any good spa. Take a look at their sister property across the street which is more high-end and boutique'y with fabulous views, great rooms too. Great staff, great place to relax.

The Modern Upscale Ryokan by Lake ShikotsuWe love the design of the hotels, great style and not too big- about 50-60 rooms. Our rooms were large and very comfortable, lots of attention to the details which makes for a nice, comfortable stay. We came back here for the second time, the 1st time, the in-room hot spring onsen was great, we don't know how temperature control works though, the sign was written all in Japanese. The main onsen was also very nice. Service was great, we felt very welcomed by the staffs. The buffet dinner and breakfast were just wonderful, consistent to the first trip a few years back, with large varieties and quality food and prompt service. You don't want to miss the meals if you are there. We love that they provide beautiful music at the lobby after dinner, both times they had the harpists playing solo. The lake was also very beautiful, you have to walk down some stairs to the road that runs along the lake area. There are some little shops and food stalls near the tourist centre. It is quite far from town, about 35-40 min to and from the airport. The hotel provides shuttle bus services to and from the airport and nearby town but you have to book seats in advance. The firs time we came a few years ago, it took time to find someone who speaks English. This time around, the have English speaking staffs.
