Best first time holiday in taupoWhen we arrived to check in staff member was very friendly & helpful. As soon as we walked into our unit what a beautiful view we had of the lake. It was a picture perfect moment. We stayed for 7 days which was the best relaxing time we have for awhile. Everything was awesome & we would definitely do it again. Thank you to all the staff at lake edge resort for a wonderful experience.

Lovely accommodation next to the lakeWe booked Lake Edge Resort through our timeshare exchange company, and we were so glad we did. Although not high on our list of places to visit, I'm so happy that we went to Taupo and enjoyed an amazing week. Lake Edge Resort is exactly where the name says it is - on the edge of Lake Taupo, with a fantastic view across the lake and into the mountains. We enjoyed sitting on our balconies late in the afternoon watching the fog roll across the lake. I can only imagine how beautiful it would be in summer, but we were still happy to be there in winter. With the bird life on the lake just below our room, we enjoyed sitting in what little sun was to be had (it was a bit of an overcast week), talking to the birds, watching life go by on the lake. The resort has two spas and a pool. Now, for those of us from Queensland it was way too cold for swimming, even in a heated pool! But we did enjoy the spas a couple of times, and they were a perfect temperature for heating up our bodies and warming ourselves against the cold conditions. Only a five minute drive from town, Lake Edge is also just a 43 minute walk from the centre, so doable if you don't have a car. But I would recommend having a car, as most things worth seeing are just too far out to walk to. There is off street parking at the resort. There is also a games room which stocks some basics for wet weather days, and I believe you can also use the bicycles and kayaks, although we didn't due to the weather. Very helpful staff on reception, who advised us where to find the keys etc. when we checked in outside reception hours, and who were very friendly whenever we had questions etc. The room was a double-story villa style, with a fully functioning kitchen, dining table, comfortable lounge, small desk, plus two bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs. There was another full bathroom downstairs which was a bonus, and also laundry facilities in the room. Everything our family of four could possibly require for a week away. We did find that the hot water ran out one night, but that was the one night I decided to have a hot bath, so that was probably my fault ... sorry husband! While staying at the resort we did a day trip to Mt Ruapehu for a spot of snow fun, and also a day trip to Rotorua. Neither was a particularly long drive, and worth it to see somewhere different. All in all, a lovely place to stay, and I would love to come back in summer and see the differences in the lake and experience other activities and things to see in Taupo.

Very happy campersThe receptionists were amazingly pleasant, knowledgeable about any questions we had and even if a guest was agitated they remained pleasant and put everyone at ease. The unit was cleaned to a very high standard. One of our best holidays in a long time.
