First visit - just beware of some of the niggles

This was our first visit and it was a last minute change of location due to a mix up with our travel agents so we went with an open mind having not chosen this place to start with. On first impressions the apartment complex is very tired and grotty in parts. The lighting is sparse in the corridors and the lifts are pretty filthy. There are a number of lifts to get all over the building as its vast and some of the ski lockers are on the same floor as your apartment - this is handy in some respects for some but if you're on the 9th floor and have to go up 2 lifts then carrying your skis and poles and with your 3 kids and the rest of the apartments also trying to get the lifts - it can be pretty time consuming. The apartment itself though was a 2 bedroom apartment to sleep 6 - it was spacious and well kitted out and it had a lovely big balcony. I was surprised at how spacious it actually was and it didn't reflect the look and feel of the common areas of the building. Few things just to just take note of. You can't check in until 5, the reception is only open between 8-11am and 5-8pm - between these times there is no one there and the doors are locked unless you know the pin (which isn't given to you until you check in). Therefore, if you arrive in the morning, you have nowhere to put your belongings. There is a pool, sauna etc but there is virtually no changing area - so take flips flops and perhaps a dressing gown so you can just walk back to your apartment. It is truly ski in and out when there is full snow but if not it is just a stones throw away from the lifts.

Very disappointed with the building and staff

After a two hour wait to be checked in at reception it then took three different lifts to unload the car which took another 75 minutes due to everybody using the lifts. The appartement itself was fine, but the rest of the building is old and worn and really badly designed, I was concerned by the lack of safety information and lighting especially considering we were on the 8th floor on the side of a mountain. There are ski lockers but on the 8th floor so no direct access to the slopes, its another two lifts to get down to ground level. I complained to Lagrange about these issues and others and their reply was basically well thats the way it is. I would never travel with Lagrange again, and they really should delete the "Prestige" part of their name.

    Feb'18 Half Term Skiing Holiday

We booked a room for 6 people, in the February school holidays, which is the busiest time of the year. The room for 6 people is a very good size, split across two floors. The downstairs has a bathroom (bath with mixer shower and sink), a seperate toilet, kitchenette (fridge/freezer, dishwasher, hob, microwave), lounge area with a good size dining table and a decent size double sofa bed. There is a TV, but we could only find French channels. Upstairs there are three rooms - a small double bedroom, a kids room with bunk beds and a shower room with a shower cubical, sink and toilet. Outside the door of the apartment is a large ski locker / cupboard, which can easily store skis, boots etc. The staff at the accommodation are friendly, but they are rushed off their feet and check in/ out times can be quite long. I also got given a large heavy sack of bedding and towels to take to the room myself on check in, which was really unhelpful given that we had 3 young kids and lots of baggage already and there was nobody to help and no trolleys available....not a great first impression after a very long day driving to the Alps! The spa/ pool is good with lockers. The only downside is the lack of changing facilities, with one small communal room for ladies and a tiny toilet sized cubical for the men. The location of the hotel is ideally situated next to the Fenicular which runs between Les Arcs 1600 and Borg St Maurice. It is also next to the free bus route for Arcs 1800 and 2000 which runs every 20 mins or so. The hotel is a good 10 mins walk from the ESF ski school and main shops/ restaurants which are on the other side of Arcs 1600. This can become painful with young kids. If you do take the free bus to Arcs 1800 in the evening, don't miss the last bus, it cost me 50 Euros to get back via cab. The down sides of the hotel are well published. The reception is only open in the mornings and evenings and it's usually quite busy. Our room was on the 10th floor which requires two seperate lifts, which are often busy/ full. The lifts require a key fob, which becomes annoying when leaving the building. If you drive to the resort in your own car it is difficult to load and unload cases near to the building, especially at night. There is actually a loading bay at the rear of the hotel, but it isn't advertised and is only good enough for a quick suit case drop off before re-parking in the main car park which is free in Arcs 1600. I decided to park my car undercover in Arcs 1800 and to catch the bus back to save getting snowed in, but with hindsight I probably could have parked for free all week even in peak time. You will need to pay 45 ish to clean the room prior to departure otherwise you will need to do a thorough clean yourself. Everyone needs to strip the beds and empty the bins, which doesn't feel very holiday like. If you pay the tourist tax the day before you leave you can drop the key back in the letter box and nip off early. We left at first light to beat the 35,000 other people leaving on Saturday morning. In my opinion its expensive for what you get. It's fine if you don't mind fending for yourself, but if you've got young kids and lots of bags you might find one of the other hotels more convenient.

A wonderful stay at Le Roc Belle Face

Weve been delighted to stay at Le Roc Belle Face! The staff speaks English and is very helpful. Then its very convenient to get there as you can take a direct Eurostar from London to Bourg Saint Maurice (we were a team of 6 friends, all Londoners). From Bourg Saint Maurice, you just need to take a funicular (7 minutes) which bring you directly to the Roc Belle Face residence! The apartments are ski-in/ski-out, right next to the Mont-Blanc chairlift so very convenient! Same if you rent your skis, theres an Intersport shop beside the residence. Our apartment was bright and spacious, even for 6 people. Plus, the swimming pool, whirlpool and spa are of a very good quality! We will definitely consider going back to Lagrange for our next stay in Les Arcs.

Great location but some disadvantages to consider

This apartment complex is ideally situated close the lifts and we could ski back to the door, the apartment was well maintained with good quality furniture and equipment, including a kettle and toaster. We had a nice balcony, no real view but very private. The staff were pleasant and helpful, but very busy all the time. Unfortunately, there are some issues and anyone planning a stay needs to be aware of the following points: Communal areas are scruffy and ill lit. The apartment was small, advertised as sleeping 4, it was fine for two, but we used all the available storage and seating. I cannot image 4 adults comfortably occupying this space. There was no high-level hook for the shower head, despite there being a shower screen. Access to apartments is all external, so outdoor clothing is required even to pop to reception or the pool. Our apartment was accessed by 2 lifts plus an additional lift to the car parking. Lifts are operated by key fob, only 2 fobs per apartment and the wait at busy times can be very long. Ski lockers are close to apartments rather than the slope access (13th floor in our case). The door to our locker room was broken and blocked by a dangerous sheet of ice. Expect a long wait for check in and check out, reception is seriously understaffed. Pool is OK but changing facilities are minimal. There are stringent cleaning requirements at the end of your stay so take appropriate supplies. It seemed as if the complex relies on guests to clean rather than staff and certain areas in our apartment had been missed (dust on shelves and litter under beds). No internet access without paying. Surely limited access in the reception area would be a nice gesture. I would not stay at this complex again unless it was priced to reflect the fact that it is budget accommodation not prestige.
