Very goodWe stayed here for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed it once we found it! The hotel instructions sound vague but do work. Merano operates a useful colour coded system to help you to find your hotel with half a dozen different routes signposted around the town (I think the Ladurner was on the red route but it would be helpful if the hotel informed you of this before arrival) The hotel is a little way uphill out of the main centre. Parking is okay at the htoel and is available in the town itself at not exorbitant rates. Our room was very big and very pleasant with a lovely big terrace to enjoy. No complaints at all. We were booked on half board (no choice in the matter) but again had no complaints. The meals were a bit different, varied and satisfying. All the staff in the hotel were helpful and pleasant and the manager was particularly cooperative in an exchange of emails before we booked (we need an accessible room) Hotel is fully wheelchair accessible.

Quiet, included Merano card, family ownedWe stayed 5 nights mid-June. The hotel picked us up at the train station; our room was clean equipped with a small refrigerator which we had requested. Room had a lovely view of vineyards on the mountainside. Everyone at the front desk was very helpful & friendly; the son spoke excellent English. The indoor pool was immaculate, warm, large with shower & changing room; it closed at 7:00 p.m. The outdoor pool was not heated and thus too cold due to the late summer. WIFi was unlimited and free; it was only available in the lounge; no Ethernet in the room. Breakfast buffet had a broad selection of hot & cold dishes. The dinner salad bar was varied; dinner entrees were limited to 3 choice of which one was vegetarian. There were translation issues with the menu from time to time. Merano caters to Italian & German guests; the town is not frequented by English speaking guests thus we were not able to chat with other guests. Bus service was a couple blocks away but it was unreliable at times with waits to 45 minutes. This area is more suitable to someone with a car as it takes too long to reach other nearby towns. Tours were all in German.

Quiet location with all amenities neededWe spent a perfect week in the middle of Meran and still next to a vineyard. The room is adequate, remodeled bathroom, has a balcony with a stunning view. Parking in front of the house not really needed: A 20 minute stroll takes you to the old town. Or, you can use any public transport - for free, since they provide the Merano Card with the stay. Merano Card includes also aerial tramways and regional trains all over the province. The staff is extremely friendly, the breakfast is generous. The patrons are on the generation 50+ side which means, in the hotel there is no nightlife.

Lovely, for German retirees and non-German non-retirees alike"Who am I writing for?" is an important question to ask when writing these TripAdvisor reviews. It matters quite a lot whether the intended reader is a family of five in a camper van, or a business traveler who needs to crash after a long day of meetings, or someone else. Let's take the Hotel Ladurner in Merano as a case in point: if my readers were, say, a retired schoolteacher from Munich and his wife, I would assume that they would find it perfectly practical and delightful. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming, even when we arrived after 11pm due to traffic. Our room was clean and well-apportioned, with a spacious balcony with two comfortable (if a little rickety) lounge chairs. The restaurant offered homemade local specialties, and plenty of choices at the breakfast buffet. Both pools (indoor and outdoor) were quiet and well-maintained. The other guests during our stay were pleasant, but respected everyone else's privacy. Now, if the reader were, say, a young American couple touring Europe, it might be a different story. They might want the rooms to be more modern, with a bigger television, or softer towels. They might be disappointed by the gym, just a small area on the way to the pool with some basic machinery. They might find the dinner portions too small, especially if they spent the day hiking and didn't stop for a big lunch. Or they might find the dinner hours (7-8:15pm) too confining. Most of all, they might feel totally out of place with the rest of the clientele, which does indeed lean much more toward "German retiree" than to "young American." Based on that feeling, they might even avoid the Hotel Ladurner, or maybe even Merano altogether, which would be a real shame. Merano and the whole South Tirol area is one of the most beautiful places that this traveler has ever set eyes on, and the Hotel Ladurner is a perfectly comfortable place to spend a few nights. Friendly, clean, comfortable, close enough to the center of town to get there easily, but far enough to be nice and quiet. Overall, a very good value in one of the nicest places on the planet.
