    Great Service and good location

My wife and I booked and arranged to stay at La Posh in Kigali. We arranged a transfer from the airport with them, but the car broke down en route. Instead we arranged a taxi...and when we arrived the front desk staff ran out to the cab and paid the driver, apologizing for the transfer dilemma. We were very happy with this care and handling, and enjoyed our stay in this clean and respectable 3 star hotel. The continental breakfast was nice in a charming solarium. This hotel really cares about their guests.

Safety & Security Concerns at La Posh

Where do I begin? Just returned from an extended stay in Rwanda, and while I loved the country and the people, I did not have the same feeling for La Posh. From the reviews it looked fine, no frills but clean and comfortable. Well, no, that wasn't the case. In my first room, the curtains were dirty and the entire room felt like it needed a cleaning, except for the bed which was fine (albeit somewhat hard). Then came the cockroaches -- first in the bathroom and then in the entryway. I told the manager who said they had just sprayed but would do it again. I ended up switching rooms. Next room...the deadbolt didn't work on the entry door. While the door itself locks when you close it, the deadbolt would not work. Apparently that is the case for a number of rooms since, as the manager explained, they need to drill new holes to host the lock. Then, one night, I came back to the hotel and the entry door lock completely broke and I couldn't get in the room. A staff member went through a neighboring room and climbed from their patio to mine, coming through the patio door and into my room, and opening my entry door from the inside. I repeatedly asked if the patio door was locked when the manager and staff member left, and was told yes. Unfortunately, I did not check it because I had been sufficiently reassured, but about five or more days later I did try it and, of course, it wasn't locked. It was broken and wouldn't even have even been able to lock. I spoke to the manager and expressed my anger -- that I had been sleeping in an unlocked room for many days after he and his colleague said everything was secure. And, they knew someone could actually come through the patio door since it was demonstrated. Unbelievable. Moving on -- my room, and a colleague's, were both lacking smoke detectors. See the attached photo. The manager knows enough that they're supposed to have them -- hence the frame -- but doesn't have them up. I was told it was because they needed batteries, but I didn't buy it. It takes two seconds to change a battery -- you don't leave rooms without smoke detectors for an extended period of time. And, there happened to be a small fire in the restaurant kitchen while I was there which, thankfully, didn't spread anywhere else. The manager tried to say they had a notification system if there is a fire on floors and, whether true or not, doesn't take the place of working smoke detectors. There also were none posted on my floor in the hallway. I have traveled extensively and have never encountered this many safety issues, and a manager who was very aware of them and did not take them seriously enough to address them. Every hotel has to abide by safety standards for its guests -- and their security should be a top priority. I will say that there is a security guard (who was very nice) who was posted at the hotel's front door, but the manager of this hotel needs to be a million times more concerned about these issues. I ended up leaving the hotel after the sum of all these issues, topped off by knowing I was sleeping in an unlocked, unsafe room. Fortunately, Rwanda is a very safe country, but regardless, the safety and security of every guest is of utmost importance. As I was leaving the hotel, and again expressed to the manager that he needed to take these issues more seriously, I asked if every hotel room had a working smoke detector. He said yes. Again, given the fact that my room and a colleague's both did not, I find it hard to believe that we were the only two rooms with an issue. I don't recommend staying here at all, but if by some twist of fate you are here, ask questions and demand these issues be resolved. Try Heaven Hotel or 5 Swiss Hotel for similarly priced hotels nearby.

Very Good and safe place to stay in Kigali

This review is purely based on my personal experience when i was on a business trip to Kigali. My company had booked this place and I checked in with lot of questions in my mind as my stay was for a long duration. This Hotel is centrally located and surrounded by restaurants, markets, sundry shops, banks. Though I had not taken the public transport, the bus passes on the same road as this hotel and a stop to board the bus was just a stone's throw. You can buy your african artifacts here, buy local fruits from the wet market, convert your forex, there 3 or 4 very close to the hotel. Also, Indians need not worry about the availability of Indian food at all, as this hotel's complimentary buffet breakfast includes an Indian food item apart from other cuisines. They have pooris, chapathis, lacha parathas, aloo parathas etc every day on the breakfast menu, along with north indian side dishes like dhall, paneer gravies, green peas gravies etc., So no worries on the food side. They do have an exclusive Indian food menu card, which is handed to the guest upon request and the chef cooks all from the menu anytime of the day and also customises and prepares special dishes upon your request. Prices are very moderate. I was so amazed that african locals could cook a perfect north indian food items. Coming to the room and other facilities, the room I stayed was on the 3 rd floor and it had balcony facing a beautiful mountain, every day was lovely with that view. It was spacious enough for 2 persons and it had a mini fridge, TV and a kettle with beverage supplies. The bathroom was perfect with shower cabin, few requests of mine were happily met upon. The staff were very polite and helpful. The hotel maintained the rooms in impeccable condition. The hotel gave me airport transfers too, which was part of my package. All the staff are very reliable. Last but not least, the Hotel manager Mr Kanda was very very kind and helpful. He always greeted the guests when he sees them and shared pleasantries. I felt very safe and comfortable.
