    Birthday treat

A second visit to this slightly off the beaten track, was as previously a great place to stay, to both enjoy the peace and quiet of a smaller village, but be close to the ferry terminal. The sister hotel, La Palmerie, is perfect for a short walk to enjoy is older world charms and more chic or romantic restaurant. The food in both hotels, is of equal high standards. We will definitely be returning.

    Well presented, but needs staff!

I found this hotel via booking.com as a same-day stay whilst travelling back from Lyon. It is very easy to find and has good parking, however upon arrival the hotel appeared deserted, reception was locked up, no staff on-site, although there were notices on the door (printed Word Documents) they were in French (no English), my limited French vocabulary made me figure out that I needed to contact the Hotel Glycine down the road, but after 7 hours of travelling, I opted to just call the hotel. I paid £97 for a deluxe room. A few minutes later the owner/manager of the hotel arrived in her car and checked me in, showing me to the permanently open entrance to the hotel rooms. The room itself was very nice, freshly decorated and well appointed with two king size beds, the bed was very comfortable and I had a great night sleep. There was a mini-bar in the room, but was empty, however a bottle of water and tea/coffee facilities were in the room. The TV was a large flatscreen, but with no UK channels, however the HDMI port had not been locked down, so was able to plug in my iPad to watch Netflix. The bathroom was nicely presented with a bath and shower over plus heated towel rail, there were plenty of towels and toiletries. The WC was separate, but again nicely presented. The area was very peaceful and the grounds of the hotel were immaculate. Breakfast in the morning was hugely overpriced at 12 for a very basic selection, if I stayed again, I would avoid breakfast and eat out somewhere else. The advertised on-site restaurant was closed and I was directed to the owner's other hotel Le Glycine, just down the road for dinner - not cheap, and a fairly small menu - but absolutely first class food and service. No English menus available.

    Disappointing changes

We stayed here for two nights in August for my husband's birthday. It was our third visit to the hotel and we were sadly disappointed. Since last year, the hotel has closed its restaurant and as a result, what was a delightful boutique hotel has become little more than a place to sleep. The good points: the rooms are large, well furnished and elegantly decorated. The bathrooms are also large and well appointed. There are tea and coffee-making facilities in the room (although no milk provided!) and the breakfast is good with eggs available in addition to the usual continental breakfast, and the staff are friendly. BUT, the bad points: after 8pm, the reception closes and the staff go home. As a result, the public rooms are all dark and locked, so there is no bar and no lounge to sit in. The whole hotel looks dark and unwelcoming and we had to access our room via a back door. The previously very pleasant garden terrace has been all but dismantled, so the gardens are no longer usable. It is such a pity that these changes have spoiled what was one of our favourite hotels. We are unlikely to return.

DISHONEST - Don't pay until they confirm you are actually staying in that actual hotel!

They took our money on arrival, having pre-booked, then told us to take our (very heavy) bag back to our car and follow them (in our car!) to "the annexe". The "annexe" turned out to be a completely different hotel altogether!!! Having a car load of stuff we chose this hotel primarily for its security. In the end we had to completely unload the car and the boot as "the annexe" parking was totally dodgy. Their excuse was there was no hot water in our room, which we didn't believe for one minute. BUT, if they'd just told us that up front, before taking our money and trying to con us, we may well have accepted it. VERY DISHONEST.
