  Anniversary meal

  We recently visited Shaftesbury for our anniversary and visited here for an evening meal. We were welcomed warmly by all the friendly staff and shown to a comfy seating area. Our table was booked for 8.30pm and we were seated by 9pm . The service was impeccable very attentive and the food was delicious. But we felt finishing touches were poor. Improvements to be made would be for some background music to be played softly for atmosphere. Also we felt the menus were very low standard for such an expensive restaurant- they were similar to something youd find in a greasy spoon. Maybe investment into something better quality rather than a poorly printed basic a4 sheet of paper.

  Nice restaurant with rooms in Shaftesbury.

  Just stayed the one night on our way home from Sussex. We stayed in 'Pinot Noir' , a double first floor room on the front of La Fleur de Lys, which was very comfortable but with a very small shower room. As this is a Restaurant with Rooms you ring the bell at reception when you arrive and the Chef showed us to our room. Parking is at the back with a very narrow entrance at the side. That afternoon we had a wander around Shaftesbury to see Gold Hill (where they filmed the Hovis ad) and the little museum which was very interesting. We had dinner there in the evening. I think it was £31 for 2 courses. They encourage you to have a drink in the bar/lounge first where there is a huge choice of wonderful quality wines and nibbles of olives and nuts to keep you going. For dinner, I thoroughly enjoyed my Smoked Salmon starter and the Mushroom Amuse Bouche was fabulous, but I wasn't as keen on my Lamb and struggled to finish it - think it was the sauce that was very rich and defeated me. The presentation of the food was beautiful even at Breakfast the next morning. My bowl of fruit and yohurt was probably the prettiest and freshest I have been presented with in many years of breakfasts at hotels. Breakfast is not buffet style and everything is brought as ordered including the freshly squeezed orange juice. My husband had the full English and enjoyed it and I had the Smoked Salmon and Scrambled Egg which was mixed together rather than separate. The staff were all very cordial and attentive and we had no complaints at all. If you're a bit of a 'foodie' it's a perfect place to stay in Shaftesbury.

  Dorset delight

  From the warm welcome on arrival to our departure after a superb bespoke individually cooked breakfast, our stay at the Fleur de Lys was peaceful and delightful. ( we did not however take on the car park challenge - only because we have a new car !!) Eating out nowadays seems to be either fast or gastro type food.It is therefore a great pleasure to dine in this restaurant and enjoy superbly cooked haute cuisine, personally prepared, and served by friendly, interested, and knowledgeable front of house staff. ( the Shiraz was gorgeous !). We slept like the proverbial log in our very quiet and comfortable room, thoughtfully equipped , even a lap top is provided. So sorry about accidentally breaking the small shaving mirror. I hope this will not prevent us from coming back. Thank you.

  A lovely B & B stopover

  A wonderful B & B just a short walk to the town. We stopped over for one night to visit our niece and family on our way home to Essex. The place is very clean and we received a warm welcome. There is free parking at the rear. all the rooms are named after wines and we stayed in the Chenin room. Quite small but adequate for an overnight stay. The breakfast was very good with a wide choice. There is also a lovely restaurant which we would have liked to try if we had not been having dinner at our niece's house.

  Terrible service

  I canceled my reservation early gave them plenty of notice but to change dates they kept 50% of my money disgraceful behaviour. I contacted them again and gave them another chance and same again would not give me a change
