Peaceful RetreatWhat a gem we found at La Casa Inglese. Not only was the location ideal, but the host and hostess provided a very warm welcome. La Casa Inglese is ideally situated to explore the surrounding mountain communities and offers the opportunity to sample the local fare. It allows easy access to the coastal towns, as well as spectacular views of the same. The owners offer a comfortable, self-catering flat that includes a simple but efficient kitchen. Zoraide made sure we were well supplied with food from the local butcher and green grocer and also shared some of her great homemade jams and spagetti sauce. What a treat! With the cool, fresh mountain air and peaceful surroundings, La Casa Inglese provides a wonderful setting for a relaxing stay.

A wonderful locationMy sister and I enjoyed our stay at La Casa Inglese. We had some difficulty finding it, but as a result were helped by very kind local people. An elderly man got in the car with us and took us directly there, then refused a ride back into town! This was typical of the kindness we encountered while traveling in France and Italy. Nicolas and Zoraida were very friendly and welcoming, and the room we stayed in was just fine for our needs. We didn't spend much time there because we were out exploring the surrounding countryside. Our hosts gave us good information on what to see and an excellent restaurant recommendation. We also had the very good fortune of being in Vara Superiore the weekend of their village dance. We had such a delightful time with Nicolas, Zoraida, and another couple who was staying for the weekend.

A wonderful place for peace and tranquility in a stunning mountain setting.La Casa Inglese is a wonderful place to stay if you want peace, solitude and remarkable scenery. Zoraida and Nicholas really put themselves out to make us feel welcome. Touches like the provision of a local mobile phone, a laptop for internet (there is wireless too) and occasional cakes and jam mean that we were well looked after. They even brought us along to the village party. They really are good hosts. We stayed in the smaller Marco Polo apartment. This is compact, and for bed and breakfast would be absolutely fine. We were self catering and the diminutive kitchen made anything other than simple food preparation difficult, however we certainly cannot complain about value for money in such a lovely setting. We didn't see the larger apartment but guess there may well be more spacious facilities there. The main bedroom was small but satisfactory, as was the bathroom. We spent most of our time outside on the lovely seating area that Nicholas had just finished making (one of many on-going projects). The amazing barbecue is definitely worth using. A saw is provided, and a trip to the wood stack provides the necessary fuel. Cooking local lamb chops with herbs from their garden on the cast iron slab produced a truly delicious and memorable meal. The setting is really magnificent! The drive from the motorway although short in distance is remarkable: in height gained, in hairpin bends and in amazing scenery; it takes a lot longer than the map seems to indicate! Watch out for the fog! We stayed for a week and there was a lot to do to fill the time. We particularly enjoyed a walk in the hills overlooking the coast (four and a half hours and we saw NO other people). Also a lovely spot by a river nestled in the mountains. This is also porcini country and fungi foragers are everywhere. In summary: Good value, lovely hosts, magnificent setting.

Too good! This accommodation is wonderful. The hosts could not be more, friendly, more helpful or more accommodating. The countryside where it is located is stunning, however one word of caution, if you don't like heights, go the long way round. Either cash or a paypal account is necessary for payment. Top up with fuel before you leave the main town centres. Nice shop in the centre of the village sells a decent local red wine, cheeses and bread at a good price, but you will probably only need the wine as the host freely provides so much more than B&B ! Take something for the evening meal in any case. If the opportunity arises we would certainly stay here again for longer next time.

Worst Hospitality Ever Received !!We were on a European tour with our motorbike and we were booking places to stay overnight looking each evening online to the closest places available at that moment. We wanted to stop in Genoa but unfortunately nothing was available suitable to our budget, la casa inglese came up as a lovely place with good review at a fair price and we decided to book online, it was around 8:30/9:00 pm on the 25th of july 2015. While making the reservation through search engine we were not advised on any policy for check in or check out times. We went ahead with the reservation providing also our mobile number. we should have arrived at 11 pm but unfortunately the roads to get there were very narrow and dangerous and without light through the mountains. We could only travel at 10 mph. We got there around 1am in pitch black condition and tired from the long trip started from Monaco in the early afternoon, we were so relieved to have finally found the place and we could get a bit of rest overnight.. we were wrong..the worst welcome ever received.. the man owner came to the balcony on the first floor and started to scream at us in the front garden like there is no tomorrow..we could smell alchohol, he was drunk, we were trying to calmly explain that we have a reservation and we booked earlier and we tought someone was expecting us but the man insisted that there was no reservation, the reservation was refused and the travel company used as broker for the booking was informed, but no one did contact us back, we didn,t receive any email and /or any text message. he was swearing at us, telling us to leave and i said where are we going to go this time of the night on top of the mountain, please help us I said, it's not our fault, no one contacted us and no policy about timing on the website.. the man suddenly came back to his senses and just like that he changed his tone, we were now guests, it doesn't matter and him being a religious man mentioned something about S.Augustine, said sorry about the screaming and no charges for the room he is just offering help.So he led us to the "oscar Wild" room , briefed us and went away. We were so relieved, we thought what a nice man, he's helping us, what not charging us, tomorrow we thought we are going to leave 100 eurous to this guy for helping us..We were wrong again..the following morning all that what said earlier was forgotten, the man's wife gave us the worst possible goodmorning ever, we were going to thank her for everything but instead she started to offend us and even wrote an email stating that we are the most inconsiderate and no charges for the room because there was no monies to compensate their inconvenience..therefore for them not to pay the commission to the travel agent and only asked 25 euro for the cleaner ( 50 euros was the price for the night)..I'm sure there was no cleaner's fee and she would have taken the money herself..just few minutes later the husband ( balcony's man from previous night) came back from church( apparently) and again all over started again make us feel horrible and with a deep sense of guilt.. all that was said the previous night about us being guest was forgotten, we were left speechless we wanted to reply to the same tone because it was a bit way to much over the top, bu i preferred to go away and start to pack the bike with our luggage to leave. we didn't want to get down to their level, poor people we thought, pity and mercy on them, we left 30 euros " for the cleaner".. and went away. we could not believe the level of ignorance of these owners, at first looking like to get to a common agreement that it wasn't anyone's fault and trying to help us,only for few hours later trying to prove their point and treating us like crap.. that is not how you welcome your guests, update your check -in/ check -out policies on the website or use the contact information given to inform your guests..they would have got an excellent review and 100 euros for helping us in a moment of need but instead decide to be mean and nasty taking advantage of our circumstances.. the place itself was nice , fairly clean in a fantastic location, but the worst ever ever hospitality. If you decide to go make sure to book in advance.
