Great location, peaceful with natural olsenWe visited lake Shikotsu and took a bird watching trail. On return we chanced upon this charming resort and because we were tired we asked if we could use their Olsen. They said yes and it was worth it!! The Olsen was clean, they provide towels at the counter, so ask for yours before you head to the Olsen! The coffee at the cafe is good too!

Serenely calm atmosphere, soothing onsen and a lovely setting. We stayed only one night but wish wed had longer. The accommodation was traditional Japanese, including the onsen, bedding, clothing and generous meals (dinner and breakfast included in the tariff). The staff were unvaveringly courteous and the setting by the lake was superb.

Quite beautiful nature resort that provide lots of activitesI wish I have a chance to stay here for 3 days. We didn't except that this resort could give me so many opportunities to explore. We were there in 2014 December winter time. the resort is a bit hard to find for me as I drove myself to there. Staff are extremely helpful although their language in English is limited. Finally found the place at the end of the driveway into the national park. It was sort of getting dark. So didn't notice anything. There is a natural Onsan . can rent the snowshoes from hotel to explore the area at a small fee. The view beside the dining hall is a magnificent lake view. Dinner and breakfast were fantastic. I dressed the Japanese traditional attire to go down for dinner and breakfast. Hotel and room look a bit old. apart from that everything is fantastic. car parking available here. the small little shop that sells local product there at the lobby. next time, I will stay more days to enjoy the park .

Gem of a Resort. Our arrival at the New Chitose Airport was delayed by an hour due to a thunderstorm. We drove in the dark to Kyukumura Shikotsuko aided by the English GPS in our rental car. Although there were no street lamps along the roads beyond the city, the multiple green flashing arrows suspended above the country roads pointing vertically downward to indicate the location of the road were very useful. The low speed limit between 50 and 70 kph helped too. We had notified the hotel that we would arrive late and they had promised to ensure dinner was available. We could see kitchen staff busily assembling our dinner in the empty dining area when we arrived at 8.20 pm. The receptionist at the hotel spoke very good English and was most courteous. We were very grateful for the sumptuous hot meal in the deserted dining room. We had a western style room on the third level in adjoining block accessible by elevator to the second level in the main block and a sort of sky-bridge to the next block and up a flight of stairs. People with problems of mobility should take note and ask for rooms in the main block. Our room was clean and cosy equipped with an air-pot that boils water, a thermos of ice water and snacks. The absence of in-room shower facilities was unexpected but not a big deal. Most onsen hotels have cramped shower areas that are barely usable anyway. The toilet and sink were all we needed since there was an onsen on the second level. The indoor onsen was very clean, basic and free of frills in the right way. The serenity of soaking in the still of the night was priceless. It was only in the morning that I realised that the hotel was nestled in the heart of beautiful national park. Walking trails begin at the driveway of the hotel and encircle the building. We were surrounded by lush greenery and the sounds of birds and insects embraced us. A short walk from the entrance to the hotel took us to a viewing deck with a panoramic view of Shikotsuko Lake. Several footpaths were seen leading downhill toward the lake. The buffet breakfast offered a wide range of traditional Japanese and Western foods. The little yellow buns the size of golf balls were delicious. The food was generally well-cooked and modest. We were almost reluctant to leave after our one-night stay. This resort is probably worth a three-night stay given the profusion of walking trails, the proximity of Shikutsuko Lake and hiking trails a short drive away.

Kyukamura Shikotsuko National Park Resort 6-7 Feb 2019A very Japanese style resort, tatami. No bathroom attached in rooms only toilet. To shower at common hot spring bath area. Relaxing and quiet resort deep inside a park. Very friendly and patient staff. Only indoor hot spring available. Free parking is available for guests. Rooms are clean and sleep area is separated by a sliding door from the toilet.
