  Tourist heaven ?

  It's big, bland, and on it's own. All the rooms look out over the lake, as long as there are no trees in the way, and our view was great. The room we had was large and well appointed with a decent sized bathroom and a separate toilet ! If you don't have a car, the shuttle to Machu is handy as is the hop on bus, although it is not exactly frequent. Note that the bus from Machu to Akan has to be paid for separately. The dining room is huge and the evening meal is a buffet of less than exciting quality, and all the meals are overpriced. That's a function of it being a long way to an alternative. If you are not sure of where to stay in Akan park, Akan looks like probably the best choice as it has quite a few restaurants and a couple of convenience shops.

  Nice lakeside resort

  Its a typical hotel by their lakes with onsen. Not bad, Quiet, caters to big crowds and bus loads of guests. They even have a large game room in the basement, table-tennis, game-machines, etc. large shop that sells lots of food and snacks. Lobby was very big; guests quite friendly and helpful. Room was quite pleasant, quite large by general standards, longish a little; huge window overlooking the lake. Overall room was comfortable. The odd thing was when I checked out, they gave me a bill of 600Y for Bath Tax!!! Which I had not encountered in other onsen hotels.

  Good value hotel

  Good value hotel, with ok sized rooms, ping pong tables and arcades and also laundry in the basement. Public onsen is available outdoor and indoor. Big breakfast hall facing the lake. Lots of tourist and also school children on a trip. There is a counter near the entrance for canoeing, and unkai-watching, and other paid activities as well. If you are a prince member you can get a late check out.

  Good, but more room to improve

  If you dont speak Japanese, you probably have hard a time to manage your trip here. Front desk staff has very limited English, and no concierge at most of hotels we have visited so far. We figure because they have enough locals to stay in hotel, so for foreign market they can care less. The room is good size, Onsen ( Spa) is okay. But many facilities need to pay extra, such as Ping Pong, which we think is ridiculous, we are ping pong players, the room cost about $240 a night, but you can not lay ping pong for free!!. The most pity is the view for restaurant is facing a small pond, rather face the most beautiful Lake Kussharo. We thought they should have built the restaurant on 8F, that would be awesome. Because we have a lake view and view is great. Another thing is the WiFi is inconsistent. For some reason, most of hotels here in Japan only give you 1 pillow per person each room. No like in USA, we get at least 4, for two people. The last thing is you can not pre check in, very strict, until 2pm. If you are a budget traveler, I would suggest going to Kawayu Onsen area to book your room, much cheaper, only 13 min away, between sulfur mountain and Sunayu.

  Good without being excellent

  3-5 to 4 stars. Large resort style hotel on a pretty autumn, tree lined lake; but well away from other activities. The carpets and settee in room #472 were quite stained but cleanliness overall was otherwise very good. For the time of year and the off the beaten track location of the hotel, its twin bed room std room pricing was quite expensive. The bed pillows were very thin but reception was able to provide more, to try to get a more comfortable sleep. A small window could be opened but the air con could not be adjusted below a too hot 24 C. A very pleasing bathroom with a traditional western shower space. Free external car parking and free easy to access, good speed, in room Wi-Fi. A pleasing if pricy (4400 Y pp) evening buffet dinner is recommended as was the equally pleasing and again pricy (2200 Y pp) buffet breakfast. Sufficient western style foods too. The main dining room is huge. Our travel friends enjoyed a shared cheese pizza in the lounge bar for their more budget dinner. In autumn (best here in early Oct in 2019) the hotel surrounds, accessible parts of the lake shore and surrounding farmland forest edges are ablaze with foliage colour. A car is definitely needed to stay here and tour locally; but this fitted in well on our 10 day Hokkaido self-tour with a hire car from Hakodate. Sufficient English was spoken at reception and at dining entry.
