A retreat from the bustle of Istanbul

If you are looking for a break from the hustle of Istanbul and you have the time it is worth taking a trip to Agva. The trip from Istanbul is very easy, just take the ferry to haman and then take the 139a bus to sile /Agva. It goes all around the world and takes 3 hours. There isn't a lot by way of the town but the beach is pretty and there are two rivers that run through it. We were there the last week in may so just off season. There are a few restaurants and basic shops around. We stayed at the kurfal hotel . It is one of the few hotels near the town. Most seem to be dotted along the rivers further away. It feels like a retreat, all timber beams and budda bags. There is a lovely pool surrounded by sun decks. We up graded to the ' penthouse' with superior decor. By doing this we seem to have done ourselves out of a balcony so def not worth the extra. The bedroom was basic and didnt quite match the rest of the hotel. The price includes half board and the meals were tasty traditional fare, the first night we had a choice of three mains, the second night was a buffet with a good spread, the breakfast was salads, cheeses craeals and cake with coffee on tap. The staff are charming. The manageress has very good English and was very keen to make sure we were enjoying our stay, inviting us on a boat trip and encouraging us to try belly dancing at the live music night! All the staff were very attentive and eager to please. It would be worth holding out for better weather in June and to speed up the bus journey get the express bus to Sile and then hop on a connecting bus to Agva

Bad service and bad cook limb

If you are looking for a value and service based on the price you pay this hotel is a wrong place. First day we arrived receptionist was not around and we had look for her. Once she was found, she was not very friendly I guess we had interrupted whatever she was doing so her tone was like what do you want and why are you bothering me. As we checked in and went to our room they call it penthouse room which no different than a standard room. Room had a very old and tiny TV tube. It definitely not worth money they asked for. First night, we went to dining room and waiter served the soup, salad and water immediately and took our order which was a selection from three main dishes. However, it took 45 minutes after we finish the soup & salad to serve the main dishes. We started making jokes that they had slaughter lamb or cow first, then cook it! Breakfast was self service and it was average and typical Turkish breakfast buffet without any water. Tea bucket was very slow as if it was brewing the tea drop a time into the glass cup. Well there goes the tea line. When we asked waiter if we can get a bottle of water, he pointed the bar and asked to them to give you one. I guess waiters do not serve customers when it is self service and no water on buffet table. After breakfast, we took a walk on the streets to explore what is in Agva. Then we went to beach until it started rain. We had a lunch at a café and came back to hotel. We did some swimming and then took a nap until about dinner time. We went to the dining room and this time there was a live music and hoping to have a better service. Not a chance and it got worse. I would understand if it was crowded but it was not both nights there were about six tables with guests at any given time. Again, we sat and waited for a waiter for a few minutes then we had to call one. He politely took our order which was tomato soup and chicken kebab. Well soup came but the chicken kebabs never did until we asked for it about an hour later. One chicken kebab came with one shish of chicken and a few small burgers (kofte) while other one was chicken kebab only. Waiter said that they ran out of chicken so they added kofte to make it a combo! I was fine with it until I took a bite! Both chicken and kofte were very cold and hard as if they were cooked first and refrigerated next. We asked waiter why the food was very cold he said there is problem in the kitchen with the cook and he will have manageress explain to us. In a few minutes, manageress Ayse shows up and apologizes for her cook having and limb issues so the kitchen is not running well. I told her that is not my problem, my problem is why I was served very cold dinner that is hard as rack so that if you throw it to the street dogs in Agva they would hesitate to eat. Here I am at a three star hotel and looking for a three star service that does not exist. So we went to another restaurant for diner. On the way back in we told manageress Ayse we will not complete our three day stay and we will check out early because we do not know what to expect on a third day. We werent only ones having diner problems. There were other couples waited for their main dish more than us. I guess we can all blame cooks bad limb instead of server who should note have served or management who should have found another cook serve her unwanted guests. Either way, dont expect any service here not just a food, they do not clean the rooms until you check out, no daily clean towels unless you ask for them and you get a strange look. You may have a better luck with other hotels in Agva.

    Overestimated

I was realy excited for this hotel in the beginning and i had realy a lot of expectation due to that i had paid around 70 euro per night(quite expensive only with breakfast). First shock the rooms was in the 3rd floor with no elevator.the tv small and 30 years old. we hit three times our heads because of the lower roof of our room.Ok i said i have been worse so i decided to go to the swimming pool. There was the disaster.noone was taking shower beforing entring inside the pool that had no obvious recycling system and it was very dirty.A lot of small anoying jungs to the button of the pool.Nown i will speak for the dinner. The dinner was alacarte this mean fixed price 30TL per person without drinks.we go and order fishes. After 30 minutes my fish came and was like sushi. It was fool of bllood inside.so the cooked it again when after i asked for olive oil the bring me sunoil and when i complaint they insist that this was oliveoil until the chef came and apologise and told me that they are luck of olive oil.AND the most nice thing of all was that we order two wines and two cofees and the totally cost of them was 60 TL!!!!!!60 tl cost our food and 60 TL 2 wines and two cofees totally 120 TL.......in paris i woud eat cheaper.....The breakfast had no coffee.you had to pay for it of course ...10 TL the one.So my only mistake was that i didnot advised my tripadvisor before visiting the hotel.I strongly not recommend it.Find something else in the beautifull koy of Agva..but definetely not a hotel li9ke kurfal
