A Good Hotel At a Good Location With Some ShortcomingsKucuk Velic Hotel is right at the heart of Old Gaziantep and it is a budget hotel. What makes this hotel advantegous is the excellent location and the warmth and friendliness of its personnel. Especially Ylmaz and Seyhan were extremely personable and helpful to us catering to all our needs. The hotel did not have maps for us at the reception for the duration of our stay, while later on upon my complaint, the manager claimed that there are loads of maps in his office. Obviously due to lack of training and interest at the reception area, there is miscommunication within the hotel. Secondly the room we were staying at was not cleaned the second day and upon my complaint at the reception, the fellow there told me that we had not requested it. How unfortunate. Although it was cleaned later that day, this left a negative impression upon us. On the positive side the hotel personnel (Ylmaz and Seyhan) have been very warm and friendly, the hotel has an excellent location very close to the bazaars and good restaurants (Imam Cagdas), the Wi-Fi at the lobby is working properly, and continuous tea service is offered to the customers. They have a good breakfast, buffet style, on the top floor with excellent views of the City of Gaziantep. In fact I would recommend rooms at the upper floors facing this view. The breakfast contained different kinds of bread, all sorts of jams, some cereals, and tomatoes, cucumbers, butter, and different kinds of cheese. They would cook eggs for you any style you want but boiled eggs were ready on the buffet table for consumption. We were very satisfied with the breakfast. The manager, Atilla Yener, was very responsive to our needs and complaints, and that is a plus for this hotel. This hotel is part of a chain that owns Buyuk Velic Hotel (less desirable location), and Zeynep Hanim Konagi, a boutique hotel. One of the other plus factors for the hotel is that there is an ample free parking area behind the hotel. For us who arrived with our rental cars, this was a great convenience. I would recommend this hotel for a stay in Gaziantep.

Keep LookingOur family planned a midweek trip to Gaziantep in hopes that things would be a little slower during that time. We quickly realized that it was planned the same time as a children's celebration in Turkey and so nearly all hotels were booked and all prices were 2-3x higher. We booked this one thinking that it would be ok (and it was one of the only ones left). It is definitely a budget hotel so we weren't expecting much but even at that it was very dirty with holes in our walls of our hotel, loose wires and dirty floors and walls. However, the location is certainly a benefit and even with young kids we walked to the Masal Park, castle etc around the area. The breakfast was ok at best and we didn't find the hotel staff all that helpful with the exception of our young worker (Kemal). The free parking behind the hotel is certainly a plus. Again I want to keep things in perspective - this hotel does not flaunt itself as something special but even at that I felt it fell short.

Stay AwayMy husband and I had one night here and we had a terrible experience with our room. The first room had a continuously running toilets, the shower door was off it's track and the air conditioner looked like it had had a fire in it plus all the fins were missing. We were given another room but the double room was hardly that and the bed was smaller than a double and was hard against the wall. Another larger room proved OK but there was lots of mould around the shower. We were not impressed.
