    Desperately in need of renovations

Staying in Hotel Kirstal was definitely a mixed bag. On the plus side, the location is good, on the waterfront promenade and near to the center and the sights there; the staff was friendly and helpful; the room had an extra blanket for each bed (which came in handy as explained below); and, quite unexpectedly, the breakfast was excellent, including two eggs, sausage, bread, cheese, croissant, and good coffee. However, the infrastructure is crumbling. The shower nozzle broke off, which meant that we could only hose ourselves off, with no spray. The sink did not drain; after twenty minutes it was still full to the brim; the socket for the hair dryer had something disgusting stuck to it, so we didn't use it; and the window curtains were basically sheer, providing no light protection at all. Fortunately I always travel with clothes pins, so we pinned up the spare blankets to make the room tolerably dark. I reserved a room with a balcony with a sea view, and I have to admit that technically I did get a balcony with a sea view, but it was not at all like those you see in the property photos - it was very narrow and provided a sidelong look at the sea. This place has a lot of potential, with its Miami beach deco vibe and great location, but it needs a LOT of infrastructure work.

Hotel with super nice personnel and location

Firstly, I would like to thank the personnel of hotel Kristal that was extremely nice, friendly, and helpful - especially Debora and Laura that spoke good English. We had good discussions over the time period I spent in Durres. Overall, people in Albania were really friendly and helpful. The location of hotel Kristal is very good with the beach and city center quite near to you. You can walk everywhere. The nearest exchange and mini market are a stone's throw from the hotel. If you wish, you can visit beaches to the left from the hotel as well, but they are not that nice as the beaches to the right hand side of the hotel. I walked twice (some 3-4 kms) to the beach to the left of the hotel and once went there a bit further, by taxi to Golem beach, but didn't like it so much. Was windy, the sea was not calm and there were a lot of people. Heading to the right, you can walk and find many nice calm beaches - and you don't have to walk far. I visited several bay beaches there (all nice) as well as the Port Side Beach. Also, the next one to Port Side Beach is very good. The nearest beach to the right of the hotel is full, but if you continue walking, you find these bay beaches that are never full of people. You can also admire the breath-taking sunsets here at the beach clubs. Everything is inexpensive, so you don't have to worry about the prices. Hotel Kristal has good price-quality ratio, too. The breakfast is fine. When you check in, just make sure that the AC is working. The devices are not the same in every room. If the AC doesn't work, they fix it - or you can change the room. Which I did (not a problem at all) and after that everything was ok. Had a splendid sea view and a nice balcony. Later they had fixed the AC in my first room. If you are a light sleeper the stray dogs barking outside may disturb you, but then again, stray dogs are everywhere in Durres.

    Very friendly

Very friendly and helpfull staff. Dont expect everything to be perfect, but remember you are in Albania. Some of our lights arent working and the showerrail keeps falling Down. But the cleaning is really good and the bed is good and the rooms are big. If you want your room to be cleaned, remember to leave your key, as there is only one key pr room. The breakfast is good and fresh.
