clean, friendly -very nice bungalow directly at the beach

super nice bungalow. we stayed for 2 nights. Food is basic but really okay. everybody friendly and helpful. Lovely beach. Paradise for us ! Better than 5 star hotels we visited during our travel through nc !

Lovely resort with attentive staff in a fabulous location

The bungalows are well renovated and maintained. The staff are very attentive. Dinner buffet is good (although pricey like the rest of New Caledonia). Good location to stay if you want to visit Tao Waterfall and the Oueme Ferry. Our son enjoyed the pool and I loved being able to walk out across the grass and palm trees to the beach. Gorgeous location.

Sea-side resort where you can't swim in the Ocean

This place has all of the ingredients, but misses putting it all together. We stayed in a newly-renovated bungalow which was very nice, but, despite having called in advance to check (I'm a Native French speaker) to check that it comfortably fit our family of 4 it simply wasn't large enough which was very frustrating. They also forgot to mention that the entire region of Hienghene has an 'Interdiction' on swimming on the beaches during the summer months due to the sharks that swim up and down the river, so that was a bit disappointing. The pool is small, not super-clean and a bit chipped and faded and the same could be said for all of the amenities. There's a putt-putt course that would take a day to fix up and make fun, same with the basketball court, which had 2 broken down backboards. The biggest issue (not unusual in New Cal) was the food - they do the Club Med Style buffet, and it is OK, but very expensive (more than $60 a head) and I spent an hour afterwards vomiting most of it up...the breakfast buffet to be fair, is better... It would not take much to make this a very nice place, including some service training.

Friendly staff but property maintenance needed

Returned for two night stay after a solo visit in 2017. Welcome was friendly with welcome fruit juice - staff were friendly throughout. Staff speak little English but are patient with ones limited French. Restaurant menu is very limited however we enjoyed very generous serves of lamb and deer. The cats near restaurant reported previously now appear to be replaced by dogs but they dont intrude on the tables. However the rooms are now showing their age and would benefit from maintenance- the view was good from our beachfront bungalow however the first signs of maintenance problems were when trying to enter room - staff had to make three attempts over 10 minutes to gain entry through the electronic keying system. We reported the ceiling fan not working in my best French to be told they dont work anymore (disconnected I assume). The air conditioning is very ineffective during the day but very effective at night. The safe stopped working after one hour and the fridge was woefully inadequate- barely kept things more than slightly cool. Not certain if the rat control is effective - its reasonable to expect rats in rural beach locations - we did have one visit in the middle of the night looking for food but it scurried into the ceiling - I reported again in my best French! The beach is not for swimming but there is good walk along the black sand/coral beach to view the rock formations from ocean side. So all in all a mixed bag. I believe the friendly staff could be better supported by owners investment in maintenance.

Big bungalow but noise from neighbours and disorganised restaurant

We had a beach front bungalow with a lovely view, room was large enough with a modest terrace facing the sea. Unfortunately the next bungalow inland had a terrace directly facing our lodging, so whenever the occupants and their friends gathered there we had to put up with their enthussiastic early breakfast chatter or their alcohol inflamed aperitif talk. it was very windy during our visit, so no chance of snorkeling, without which there was very little to do. The restaurant was a disaster, with waits of up to an hour for food in a crowded room closed in by plastic curtains to keep the wind out.
