Much ado about not so muchTempted by the description on the Internet we booked a townhouse (first problem: no one speaks English, luckily we know some Russian) to escape from the big city for some fresh air of the Volga. The fresh air was there alright, wonderful! The road that leads directly to the club is very bumpy and when entering the place there is construction building all around. Of course, this place is less than a year old. And the staff is trying hard, they're very friendly which helps. But I have to say, the marketing works. It suggests that you can go fishing, there's a yacht club (well, there wasn't one single little boat there) and - most important of all - in the end I guess you're supposed to be interested in buying one of the houses on the ground. All in all, during the three days of our stay, we had the feeling that this club is trying hard to be a four star place in a Western European style, but falls short. Some examples: - the lobby is grand and could be comfortable - if the light was on! Everything is dark! - upon arrival no one says welcome or shows you directions e.g. to the breakfast room or gives you checkout times. Again: no flyer in your house - at breakfast they clear away your plate while you're still eating! Isn't there this sign of how you lay your knife and fork which shows "I'm done" or "another round"? - the Internet does not work on all grounds as promised. The explanation was: the townhouse is too far from the clubhouse - there is room service, only there aren't any flyers in your house suggesting so - there is a beach, only it's full of junk and remainders of winter like leafs and sticks. It's May?! - housekeeping cleans and tidies but you don't get clean towels or bed sheets (even though there were obvious stains...traveling with a baby...) I have to say I'd like to see the place in a year or two. Until then I can't really recommend it.

Good place to stay over the weekendsWe have been there with friends. Not so many people around but really nice location. Rooms are ok, good mattress so we had a nice sleep. Breakfast could be better for 4 stars hotel. We have also rented souna in the morning - grate after party. So I can recommend the place.

If you live in Moscow and want to get out for few daysNot very quick or easy to reach. Book 3 hours from downtown Moscow. It is a very traditional Russian hospitality place. Gated area but with friendly gate keepers. Picturesque area on the banks of river Volga. Good opportunities for various outdoor activities. Service was patchy. Supportive people at reception and the restaurant some fairly angry with customers guys in the lobby bar... The breakfast could be greener and better. Food was ok with a heavy accent on garlic :-) and traditional Russian food. Internet wi-fi was good but (I quote) is officially available only in the lobby. Finally the main building has very strange and not always logical architecture...and grossly unreliable lift.

Beautiful place on Volga riverIt's quite far from Moscow, about 2,5 hour drive but absolutely makes sense for a long weekend. After you quit the highway it's half an hour drive to Konakovo and then through the city and its suburbs. But once you reach the entrance to Konakovo river club it's absolutely peaceful nature with stunning river views, a sandy beach, European architecture townhouses and a cosy chalet type hotel. The selection of activities is very impressive - from all kind of water sports to off-road experience. Kids are very welcome, they are trying to be very family oriented. Unfortunately kids animation needs to be improved as well as something should be done to food. It's okay but this place deserves better. The sign at the reception desk says that it's been opened a year ago so I hope that improvements are still to be implemented soon as part of the season opening.
