More Greek tragedy than German efficiency. Avoid.I stayed 4 nights at the Kolossos on the occasion of the Medica Trade Show in Dusseldorf in mid November 2012. At that time hotel availability in the Düsseldorf area is terrible and prices are a proper rip-off. I booked the hotel through an agency (paid upfront, no refunds possible) and chose it for its relatively "modest" price of 206.50/day B&B - for the sake of comparison, I was informed that this hotel's price outside of Trade Show periods is 50-60/night. Also important for me were the availability of a car park, free wifi throughout the hotel and relative proximity to Düsseldorf. The hotel is tired, run down and in serious need of refurbishment. I checked in to room 13 which proved to be an unlucky throw of the dice. As requested I got a double for single use, overlooking an internal courtyard and therefore very quiet. I could not find a wifi network, despite many endeavours and the many assurances that there was a LAN available. Ultimately the hotel manager admitted that there was problem and shrugged off my objections as all rooms have a cable connection. I have a modern laptop without an ethernet connection but that apparently was MY problem. After a polite but very frank exchange with the manager I must have made an impression as, in time for my last night, he offered me a flash drive with internet access through telephone service providers. I thus spent 3/4 of my stay roaming on my mobile telephone account. Now the room! Room 13 has a clear glass window in the bathroom - yes, clear! - with a broken roman blind to protect my modesty. In the morning I discovered that there was only (very) hot water in the bathroom so I was unable to wash or shower. I made my way to the restaurant (from where the hotel is run) and demanded the key to another room. I was given room 11 and, ascertaining that there was now cold as well as hot water (and no window in the bathroom!), I promptly moved my belongings there. Unfortunately, room 11 overlooks not just the main road but a junction at the main road and it's very noisy. Sleep deprivation ensued, aided by the perfunctory decorative strips of cloth that pass for curtains at the Kolossos (see photo). One and only one positive note: the Greek restaurant is fine. Dine there if you will but do not stay. Oh, and I was able to park my car.
