Great B & B but poor location and restaurant not so good.Hotel booked for overnight stop en route to Austria. Room very clean, modern, well furnished with a nice bathroom, balcony and free WiFi.Lovely breakfast, friendly staff and quiet. Good nights sleep. Unfortunately, couple of "buts". We ate at the hotel - only one other couple and had a poor meal. Steaks were ordered and clearly from freezer to microwave to pan for browning. They were vile! We ordered a bottle of wine and it came ready opened and tasted as if from a cheap bulk supply - suspect it was. Horrible meal. Secondly hotel is located outside of Bernkastel on a plateau amongst a campus of clinics so a bit of a weird holiday destination but OK for a nights stop. In conclusion, great B&B, avoid the restaurant and possibly not a good base for seeing the area.

Very nice!!!!!Very nice hotel, very nice staff!! The rooms are very confortable, the bad is very good, and also very very quiet! The breakfast is included and is very very very nice!!!!! The internet works perfectly! There's a parking and is free of charge. The only donwsize is that the hotel is not close to downtown, but is very easy to get there by car (10 minutes).

Good hotel to discover Mosel area, recently renewed rooms and welnessThis was our first stay in the Mosel. We wanted to discover the Mittel-Mosel wine area and found out that our stay in the Koelchens Hotel was a good choice. The nice town of Bernkastel is centraal in this area. The town itself is most likely the most vivid and attractive town of the Mosel. The hotel however is located on the plateau at the other side (Kues) of the Mosel river in the woods/park area. Quitly, but if you expect a room with a view over the river / vineyards, you will be disappointed.Friendly staff (we good rent a hiking map for free). The hotel had a recent make-over, hence the rooms were large , modern and with all comfort and a terrace (even a large sunny day-terrace in common at the first floor). Big practicle bathroom. Also the welness (Steambath, sauna, showers, ) was new and is accesible for the hotel guests. There is sufficient parking space available around the hotel. Breakfast is good (fruit, meat, cheese, various breads, eggs, bacon, yoghurt, fruit-juices,...). Cofee was not our style (but we are used to strong esspresso). The restaurant (no booking required) has some typical Mosel kitchen. No big gastronomy but good local food. There are nice local wines on the wine menu! Conclusion : Good place to dicover the Mittel-Mosel. Next time in the Mosel, we will book again.

Lovely stayWe needed an overnight accommodation to begin our Mosel-Rhine journey. We arrived quite late (many road closures and detours) but they had left us a key for our room. They room was very large, immaculate and very comfortable. Large bathroom. Although it is a bit out of town, that didn't matter for our purposes and I would be happy to stay there again. A full breakfast bar in a lovely restaurant with kind staff.
