Lovely small family managed hotelMerano: Klein-Fein Hotel Viertlerhof- Meran 2000 Date : January 2008 "Lovely family managed small hotel " The hotel Viertlerhof it is in the small place Hafling near the skiing station Meran2000, about 15/20 km from Merano city in Italy. The place Hafling it is very know for the same named race of hourses. Small place into the mountains, exelent for, family skiing groups or for couples. The Hotel has a very good restaurant and even bette selection of wines, they also organize wine tasting. The spa it is very clean and spacious. The rooms are confortable in tyrol style. I can suggest this hotel for those who like the quite, the good food and the falmiliar ambience. Maybe there is not enought space for small children (also if they have a room for kids), but with older children and for couples it is excellent place. At Hafling there is not much to do, but in Merano city you will found an oldfashion nice place, and at the skiing station meran2000 there is several skiing routes and even a bob route, funny and nice.

Stunning and so welcomingStayed here first 2 nights of a walking holiday. Couldn't have had a better start or a lovelier welcome. Accommodation superb. Food wonderful. Among the best was a pasta dish is freshly made gnocchi, warm freshly made tomato sauce, mozzarella and basil - simply wonderful. Excellent wine menu with staff who were very knowledgable and happy to advise. All the staff were welcoming and friendly, especially Stefan and all of the waiting team. We're stayed in lots of Tyrolean hotels and this is up there amongst the very best.

View of Sud-TirolTo give this Hotel a 4 Star rating is a joke. I fear that the service and the overall "hospitality" is very poor and the attention to details is non - existent. Take for example the mini-bar in the room: empty and not working very well even after having repeatedly told the personnel of the problem. No air conditioning in the room: during the period we were there we reached peaks of temperature above 32 Deg. C. in the day: at night we had to leave the patio doors open due to the extreme high temperature in the room. Exceptional heat or not for 200Eu x night (B&B) I would have expected Air Con in the room. Quality to Price ratio absolutely very poor. Not impressed at all. The reception was deserted most of the time, so no possibility to ask for info/water/garage parking if late arrivals etc...No one. Very poor indeed.

Unpleasant ExperienceWe arrived at Hotel Viertlehof on May 31st, 2018 around 6pm. It was not easy to find the place since there were no road signs in English, only German. My wife and I do not speak German. When I told the person in the reception that we had some difficulty finding the hotel, his said are you complaining to me? I answered no, I was just commenting on that. The reply of Florian Reiterer who is the owner, manager and chef of the hotel, was SO SHUT UP. I thought I did not hear clearly and asked him to repeat and he said, I TOLD YOU TO SHUT UP and just bring me your passports. This was a unique welcome we received from Mr. Reiterer, I brought our US passports and we checked in. The room was average. When we went to eat dinner, the menu was only in German. The waiters did not speak English. A nice couple who was sitting next to us saw how lost we were and offered to translate the menu for us. The management left some documents for us to sign, and in spite of the fact that we carry US passports and reside in New York City, Mr R wrote that we live in Tel Aviv, Israel. Why would he do that? It made us feel strange and leaves some room for thoughts. Since we paid in advance and were very tired, we decided to stay the night. Later that evening, around 10pm, I developed fever and felt very sick and we decided to go to the hospital in Merano, the closest place we could find. The barman called a taxi for us and I guess told Mr. Reiterer, who came to the lobby. Mr. R looked at us, did not say a word and left. Not exactly nice hospitality. I was diagnosed with pneumonia. When we returned to the hotel at 2am, the hotel was totally closed, there was no way to get in. The place was totally dark. Mr. Reiterer knew I went to the hospital but did not feel any need to guide us and make sure we can get back into the hotel. We banged on the door for a while before Mr. R let us in. When we made reservations, we did not see any information describing the fact that it caters primarily to German speaking guests. So, if you do not speak German think twice. We are experienced travelers and have stayed in different hotels all over the world including Germany and Austria. We never felt so uncomfortable or unwelcome. Of course, we will never come to this place and will never recommend it to anyone. As an advice to others, sometimes it is worthwhile to read the less favorable opinions. Chaim Barash New York, NY
