  Modern, but Japanese.

  The hotel is a nice mix of modern features (individual bathrooms) and Japanese style room with tatami mats, futon, etc. Very peacefully located on the Mikuma River. Onsen located on the 8th floor offer indoor and outdoor pools.

  Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

  This hotel seems to be a landmark in the town and provides great views of the river. The onsen was great with an option to enjoy the hot springs water in the outside cold air while enjoying the view. In addition to the normal yukatas the hotel staff provided colorful kimonos and dressed up the ladies in our group for dinner! The food was great and we slept soundly. We thoroughly enjoyed this stay.

  Lovely mix of traditional and modern with beautiful views.

  The hotel is well situated not far from the station and buses so also not expensive for a taxi. It is set on the river with lovely views, peaceful feeling. I had a Japanese style room which was large and comfortable. Slept really well. Fridge in the room so I did my own breakfast. It is located in a nice area for exploring, don't miss the Gion Museum. My main reason for going to Hita was to be able to take a day trip out to Onta Pottery Village which is a UNESCO heritage site. Traditional handmade pottery (on display in the hotel and town). You can go by bus if no car. A unique experience. Back in the hotel I relaxed in the Onsens up on the 8th floor with river views.

  Excellent ryokan within an hour of Fukuoka city

  We were pleasantly surprise at the value we found at this ryokan. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the Japanese style room very comfortable. We enjoyed the view of the river from the hotel onsen. The breakfast was the most elaborate of all that we found in all the ryokans we stayed in on Kyushu.

  Dinner in House Boat

  As a midpoint stop when travelling from Aso to Fukuoka, we stayed at Hita for one night. Kizantei is one of the traditional hotels near Mikuwagama with the spectacular view and onsen. The staff did not speak fluent English but they were very friendly and nice. Free bicycles and umbrella available at the front door. You may also choose your own kimonos to wear during your stay. We reserved a dinner in the house boat. The boat shall travel along the mikuwagama river together with some house boats of other hotels. In ancient Japan, it was an activity for the noble class. When we almost finished our dinner, there was a fish-catching bird performance. The experience would be perfect if the staff had not turned on the florescent lamp in the boat on the way back to the hotel which attracted a swarm of flying insects. Onsen is kinda small but the view there is quite nice.
