what a hotel should beWe stayed for one night a while back and when opportunity offered we grabbed a second chance for two nights. It's spacious, tranquil and well-appointed. Reasonably priced for what it offers. Joy - they still have sheets and blankets on the beds instead of the ubiquitous duvets. Dinner excellent. te only weakness was the breakfast with a lack of fresh fruit and an extra charge of £5 for a kipper - surely a kipper can't cost more than the ingredients of a full Scottish!

25th Wedding AnniversaryWe were the only guests in the hotel that evening, so they opened specially for us. We were given the best room which had a four poster bed for the standard rate. Room was very comfortable and spacious and grounds are very attractive. Staff treated us like lord and lady of the manor and were very attentive. Dinner and breakfast were very good, although in different circumstances I would have found the dinner expensive. Lots of ambience with oak panelling and log fires even if there weren't other guests to share it.

Very quiet. Friendly staffWe had a very nice room and the staff were friendly. It was quiet when we stayed but that did mean I could play the grand piano without fear of upsetting the other guests. They made some nice vegan dishes for us in the evening.

Beyond expectations of a beautiful country house hotelWe found this hotel on a trip advisor search of hotels near where we had business in Scotland. First contact with Lara, the co-owner was very pleasant and she gave us the impression that this was a small guest house which also served as their home. Nothing could be further from the truth,, this is a massive beautifully kept coutry house with genuine oil paintings that have been with the house for centuries. Lara and Ben the owners, welcomed us to the palatial entrance lounge with a piece of home made cake and cup of tea. We had managed to get the last room and when we were shown to the room, we were stunned with the size of the room, the views from the third floor and the quality of it. Unlike most converted country hotels, this has been converted many years ago with view to comfort and luxury for the guests. No wifi in the rooms was not a disadvantage as the large spacious lounge with a big roaring log fire was a much nocer alternative to working in the rooms, but good mobile signal means that anyone with a mobile hub will have good internet and emails. The owners have only been running the hotel for a few months so have not got a full restaurant yet the breakfast was magnificent with a full Scottish breakfast including PROPER Scottish porridge in a stunning high ceilinged dining room. The hotel despite its age shows no internal signs of dilapidation and I wish we had the time to look properly round the many paintings and their history and the huge 8 acres of picturesque grounds, completely unspoilt by development. We only stayed one night, but wish it had been a week. Lara and Ben, you are amazing people and thank you for making us feel so welcome in your lovely hotel. We will be back but you do really need to tell the world how good your place is and how warm your welcome is. I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel and the surrounding area for a short break or business meetings.

PoorFirst impressions were great, a friendly host, Ben, a beautiful big room downstairs, lovely staircase and a huge bedroom which we have to say was very clean. Ben was very welcoming, showed us around downstairs and told us if we wanted the fire lighting in the lounge it wouldn't be a problem as we were the only guests that night. Our room was lovely, big and bright and a four poster bed, and to be fair we only gave the hotel 30 minutes notice before our last minute booking so were pleased that Ben had put a small fan heater in the room to warm it up. Unfortunately with three small radiators, one under each window, (only two working and all on very low which we could not adjust) this did not make any difference to the heating of the room. The glass was single glazing (it was a very windy night too so they rattled all night) and once the drapes were closed they covered the radiators and all the heat went into the windows. We went out for a lovely dinner and on our return we came back to darkness and had to use the torches on our phones to be able to see to get up the stairs in the entrance and it was only 8.30pm, surely it is acceptable to have lighting on so early? We also came back to a cold room which I have to say had a foisty smell and we had to sleep in jumpers to keep warm, totally unacceptable when we paid £100. The bathroom was very tired with black mould on the grout around the bath, the toilet did not flush and we had to take the top of the cistern off and manually flush it each time we used it. The bin in the bathroom did not work either . . The windows were running like rivers the next morning with condensation dripping onto the carpet. I am sure that the cost of the room, £100, should include keeping your guests warm, and to have no heating at all come on the next morning was disgraceful, and when I mentioned this to Ben, there was no explanation other than "the house was very cold last night! " I have to say the bed was lovely, very comfortable and clean. Also we noticed the toilet seat was all stained underneath. (We did not look for faults but with having to take the top off the toilet, we placed it on the pan with the lid up so as not to damage the seat and couldn't help but notice.) The next morning we came downstairs at 8am to ask for some heating to be switched on but could not find Ben or get any attention and as Ben had said the bell at the door was for emergencies we felt we could not ring that. We came down again at 9.30 to check out and everywhere was still in darkness with all curtains closed and we rang the bell, knocked on doors and shouted but could not get any attention again, which is why I wrote a note and left it on the reception desk to say I would call the hotel later to pay, or could they call me. When we eventually spoke, I mentioned not being able to find anyone , Ben said he had overslept as his grandchildren had been there the previous night and didn't get much sleep. I also mentioned about the cold to which the reply was that it had been a cold night throughout the house !! I also mentioned about the bathroom and Ben offered us to return another time for half price but unfortunately a lot needs to be done before we would consider that. I emailed Ben on my return and even wrote to him just to get his feedback but he hasn't replied.
