Nice quirky hotelWe stayed here for a ski holiday in Schladming and found it charming and comfortable. We had plenty of good food with plenty of choices for main course and two choices for desert. Breakfast was plentiful with lots of choice, not cooked options apart from boiled eggs but this was not a problem as the variety of breads, cereals, fruit etc. made for a good feed to see you through the day.Although there are some high fixed tables to have a drink at, there isn't really a bar area/lounge to enjoy a chat and a drink at the end of a hard day's skiing/boarding. The hotel is located at the end of a pedestrian area not too far from the Planai lift station where you can hire a locker for your skis/boards/boots. (66 euros for a 4 person locker for 6 days). Saves carrying your kit to and from the lifts. There is a basic boot/ski storage room in the hotel if you want to save a few quid and don't mind carrying your stuff to the mountain each day. The rooms are roomy and comfortable and kept clean and warm. No problem with noise apart from ploughs clearing the street below in the early hours, but this was due to exceptionally heavy snow while we were there. Be aware that there is no lift and the climb to the third floor will be a struggle to anyone less able or unfit, but if you are skiing/boarding you ought to be fit and well unless a disabled boarder/skier in which case this is probably not the place for you. Would I stay here again? Absolutely if I were to return to Schladming.

Just great as alwaysThe hotel is warm, clean & welcoming. I think our 8th or 9th visit. We stay here for the staff (particularly Thomas & Christina) who are wonderful. Its not smart or glamorous but if you want hot showers, plentiful food and comfy beds this is ideal. Less than a 5 minute walk to Planaistraße so well placed too.

Probably the worst hotel I have ever stayed inOur room was above the kitchen with a constant smell of dirty frying fat constant sound of bashing of weiner schnitzel. The view from our window was of air duct pipes the bathroom was falling apart and dirty. The towels provided would have sliced your skin off they were so hard!!. You could have snapped them in half. The bathroom ceiling was mouldy. The carpet was covered in stains and everything rolled off the bedside table as it was wonky. The staff were abrupt and the food was terrible so we ate out nearly every night. The hotel is dark and dingy and falling apart. Take a look at the photos for proof. We were with crystal ski who were worse than useless and totally lied in their description of this hotel TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE. AVOID.

Welcoming, friendly, traditional hotel with delicious food.I enjoy writing Trip Advisor reviews and indeed always consult them before booking a holiday. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and having read the previous review I felt that I must add my own review for future travellers to read. I have stayed at the Hotel Kirchenwirt once a year since 2016 in either room 101 or 102 to which the previous review refers. The view from the bedroom window not only includes the air ducts from the kitchen but also lovely views of the ski slopes and mountains as shown in my photo. The restaurant is open from 11.30 am until 9.30pm and yes you do hear the distant thud from the occasional Weiner Schnitzel being prepared but I personally do not find it intrusive and feel it adds to the charm of the hotel. Being a non skier I spend a fair bit of time in the room and have never found the smell from the restaurant to be offensive. The great thing about the room is that it is on the back of the hotel and so does not get road noise and aides for a good night's sleep. The staff are friendly and go out of their way to make your stay a happy one and the main meal choice at dinner of 8 or 9 options is certainly enough choice for me. As Crystal states the hotel is renowned for its authentic Austrian food and the amount of diners in the restaurant who are not staying at the hotel speaks for itself. The hotel offers free wi-fi and the bedroom offers plenty of storage with a comfy bed and plenty of hot water for a refreshing shower. Crystal describe it as a family run traditional hotel offering a relaxed home from home experience in an ideal location and in my opinion that is spot on. I have already booked to stay here again next year and will no doubt continue to do so for many years to come.

Had to rebut the nasty comments...Weve stayed at this hotel at least once a year for 11 years running. It is friendly, warm and very clean. To be fair the food is extremely focused on pork (in common with most eateries in the resort) and, in my opinion, not enough vegetables. It doesnt have a bar as such, so is a bit alien to Brits again, thats pretty much the same as the other hotel. Its a family-run, long established hotel. Yes its a bit old fashioned but its very conveniently located and is more than adequate for most skiers needs.
