    Super stay

We stayed one night whilst visiting the sights in the area. The town is entirely centred on the onset industry and Sanraku is one of many large hotels offering the 'bed, breakfast, evening meal and bath' package. I don't know the relative merits of each but, having lived in Japan for a number of years and visiting many similar hotels around the country, Sanraku ranks highly. The rooms are large and well appointed; the baths are a decent size and in good condition; and, the highlight, the kaiseiki meal was the best I've had in such a hotel. The staff were, of course, wonderfully obliging! My wife asked for a western breakfast for me, which was an off piste request. Their reply was they'd try their best...the result was excellent, substantial and would shame many hotels in western countries. Recommended without hesitation!

    Excellent Onsen/Hotel

I'm not sure why this hotel is listed under Nikko as its in Kinugawa (2 completely different places). My fiancee and I spent valentines weekend at this resort. The aim was for a relaxing weekend away and the setting of this location was perfect for exactly that. With a mountainous backdrop and a river running through the heart of the town, its a peaceful location. The resort itself was very modern and comfortable feeling. The room we stayed in was huge, 3 separate room areas with tatami mats, a spacious bathroom and a living room area. It had a very comfortable feel with a modern twist. Being served dinner and breakfast in the room was a great experience. The dinner lasted a total of 2 hours making it part of the stay as opposed to just eating for the sake of it. I don't eat any form of seafood whatsoever and informed them of this in advance. Let them know if you are the same so they can accomodate as seafood featured heavily in my fiancees meal. The breakfast was as enjoyable as the dinner, both meals featured fresh ingredients all symbolising what Japanese cuisine is all about. The onsen itself was great, however I understand that the female one has beauty products by Dior, Chanel, Lancome, L'occitane etc, and it wouldn't harm them to have a similar selection in the mens onsen as opposed to the cheap selection that was on offer. The outdoor bath was great despite the fact that people in the opposite hotel could see you in the buff if they focused enough. All in all, this was an enjoyable experience despite the very heavy price of 46,000yen.

    A Luxary Hotel

We, 4 persons, stayed in a 4-person room, very spacious, 72 sq. meter. Welcomed by green tea at the lobby. Breakfast is good, we did have our dinner at the hotel as we joined the t cherry night festival. Onsen fine, but would be much perfect if with open air onsen. Hotel staff are helpful. Hotel can offer transportation service from and to train station, on request.

    Good onsen in Kinugawa

While visiting Tobu-Nikko (the world heritage area), we decided to stay in a onsen. Kinugawa onsen sanraku appeared to us as quite close but we had to take local train to go there (with a change / approx. 40min). From the station to hotel, it may take another 10-15 min walking but there is a shuttle bus from the hotel. Hotel installation is nice, the spa is perfect. We selected the pack with dinner and breakfast served in the room (approx. 30.000¥xpax). If you are not a big fan of japanese cuisine, better not to take this option. There is a restaurant 3rd floor with variety of japanese and western dishes. Good place for the spa and for having a relaxing day.
