    Relax in onsen

I visited the onsen for three hours. The bathhouse was lovely. I've visited Korean bathhouses before. This experience was similar. Rules: no clothes, no tattoos, shower before getting in hot tubs, use bath towel to cover private parts for "modesty", do not be offended if the Japanese women ask you questions. I don't know if the local women have seen many black women, but they were friendly to me, although they seemed to be fascinated by my long legs. The ladies asked if I was from Brazil. I explained that I am American. They asked my age, and I told them that I am 40--they were in disbelief and exclaimed that I am beautiful with a nice body, and looked 20! Of course this was a conversation with limited English on their end, and no Japanese language skills on my end. Overall I enjoyed the hot baths and the warm springs outside in the brisk air! I definitely recommend this for anyone who likes the spa!

    A time to relax

This is a rather large hot springs hotel with the ability to host large groups. I was invited there by my Japanese business partner who included me in his annual December staff party. The room i stayed in had a tatami mat area and a low table for in-room dining. The hot springs area is huge with man made pools of different temperatures including very hot to very cold! This hotel is a little off the beaten tourist track i think. I saw no other obvious foreigners there during my one night stay. So this would be a good place to immerse yourself into modern, everyday japanese resort life. gift shops, karaoke, and restaurants all under one roof. Probably other amenities exist that i did not have time to discover. Large parking area. You would need to have your own car or a taxi to get there i think. Area immediately surrounding the hotel is not a hug attraction....although you can see the ocean in the distance.

Golden place named after the Golden Boy

Perhaps the best onsen I have ever been to. Great room, with tatami mats and excellent sleeping mats, ultra comfortable. Room very-well equipped, spacious, nice bathrooms. Hotel with great gift shop and plenty of meibutsu, including lots of lovely Kintaro-themed packages. The baths are spacious, super hot, great washing facilities, well-provided, excellent cold shower, dry sauna with TV - I could stay around all day. Always everything super clean. Service is kind and attentive. I had fabulous local food, and they were always very careful with my allergies (no shiro-ebi for me). Perfect everything. Congratulations to the team!

    Cast of thousands!

Kintaro Onsen is slightly off the beaten track in Uozu. It a complex of highrise buildings set in rice fields, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. It may be a challenge to access if not driving (and a doubtful drive when guided by GPS), but you know it when you get there. The baths are huge, the dinner and breakfast are good, and the rooms are nice. Very good value for money, except for the challenging access. We used it for an overnight stop to visit Kurobe Gorge, which is a short 20 minute drive away. I think its definitely better value for money the the properties in Onazuki Onsen, which is at the doorstep of Kurobe Gorge.
