A brilliant staycation!!!! 10/10 must visit Kinnitty Castle ! A stay of 4 days wasnt enough! Read below

Where to start! On arrival we were greeted by Sarah, a kind warm welcome. Our room was spacious & definitely olde world charm! The castle exudes elegance for its time, just a true gem! All this whilst social distancing maintained & lots of sanitiser available, making us feel our safety was first priority Food in the dungeon bar was spectacular. Best bar food Ive ever had, quick service and v friendly staff. The dungeon was nothing like Ive seen before, a great experience with the bars and the old kitchen. Beautiful woodwork all around the castle Afternoon tea in the lounge was classy & made us feel like we were the lord & lady of the castle with stunning view of the castle front & grazing horses a great way to relax Amazing walks are to be availed of! A fairy path in the Forest I believe was made by their chef staff told me. Maps were provided to us by Niall in the antisocial cafe for the other walks! The coffees & pastries were delicious. He was Well informed & was not shy to tell us the castles history and ghost stories! We were relieved to not have been staying in the gerdaline room We also dined in the Formal dining restaurant beside the foyer. A great experience made us feel like royalty in this castle. I believe emer was our hostess, seating us and accommodating all our needs. Complimentary small soups before starters, fine dining at its best. The girls were fast working, professional and the food DIVINE! Mouth watering , great presentation and it all complemented each other. Had to eat there two nights as we couldnt get enough. The wines were nicely detailed in the menu. My husband and I are excited to return soon. We left feeling very relaxed, refreshed and rosy. I cant remember any other staff members names but all deserve credit as they were so friendly all around the castle . This is my first of hopefully many reviews and delighted it was a 5* experience in Kinnitty Castle Hotel

    Very Nice Castle

I purchased a voucher for my partner in May 2019 and due to Covid lockdown in May 2020, this voucher was extended to end September. In September, both Kildare (where I live) & Offaly where Kinnitty is had just come out of a 2nd county lockdown. As this wasn't the time for travel,we were being advised to stay home. I requested a further extension. I was refused at first, then a 2nd person extended it to end of Oct2020. I asked for a further extension on the basis that travel was not being advised due to rising Covid numbers, we were again refused, but told we could travel and have lunch or dinner! They actually thought it was ok to ask us to spend 200 on lunch or dinner. Very foolish, because if they had extended the voucher, it is likely, that when it was safe to do so, we would have stayed for a few days and spent a lot of money. I am appalled at the handling of this in the current Covid situation. At no point did anyone even enquire if myself or my partner would be considered 'at risk' - the level of customer service here was dreadful. I should point out that we had been to Kinnitty previously and were recurring business. In any event, rather than let them have our money for nothing, I travelled with a couple of friends for dinner in mid September. The food was just ok, however the service left a lot to be desired. Covid care was dreadful. The wait staff consistently leaned over us to reach other guests at the table. There was no need for this as there was plenty of room around the table. The head waiter (i think he was the head waiter) did not wear a face mask at any time during the night. I ordered extra potatoes from him and they never arrived. Our wine, the most expensive bottle on the menu, was opened by the waitress somewhere away from our table - highly irregular, no checking of the vintage, or quality. The cork nowhere to be found. Definitely not how fine wine should be served. Overall, what should have been a weekend stay/ visit turned into a mediocre dinner. I did write to the management, following our visit, but they have not as yet replied. In such uncertain times, the handling of this issue was very poor. In contrast to Barberstown Castle, who honoured a voucher that was 4 years out of date - that is customer service. As mentioned previously, we had been visitors to Kinnitty in the past, but will not support this business in the future. Shame on you, in the midst of a pandemic you could have offered some customer service.

Visit to santa followed by dinner in Dungeon Bar

Nice visit to see Santa and Mrs Claus followed by dinner in the bar. Lovely experience and castle well decorated for Christmas. Food was good all round, venison sausages were delicious. Draft beer was excellent

    Lovely couples get away

After the crazy year that was 2020 we decided that a little weekend break away was well deserved and Kinnitty castle gave us exactly what we were looking for. Situated deep on the castles grounds the hotel is a excellent location for any couples who want to spend some quality alone time in the outdoors. The trails surrounding the castle are perfect for leisurely walks in the fresh country air. The castle its self was above and beyond what we had imagined. It was like stepping back in time (but with all the modern luxurys). The room was inviting and warm, making for an excellent nights sleep, after filling up on the complementary chocolates. Included in our package were both evening dinner and breakfast which were both exceptional and offered dishes that kept in touch with the medieval meets 21st century feel of the place. Kinnitty was all we had wanted and more,it truly was the perfect rural escape.
